Because a majority of our "fans" are a bunch of idiotic and reactionary bumpkins who have the IQ of a chimp when it comes to football.

Does that explain it?

It's weird. All over r/cfb people are acting like it's the apocalypse and I genuinely have no idea why people think this is such a terrible hire.

If he were hired the day Chavis left it would not have been a big deal but after 2 weeks and so many candidates to choose from the expectations were too high.

And I've always wondered how many of these fans actually stepped foot on campus outside of going to a sporting event or to see a tiger in a cage.

Glad to have them, anyway!

His past work is not heart warming. It doesn't make me jump up out my seat and it's not someone I'm confident about. Last season I could say "At least we have Chavis"

This is kinda is biting our lips until the results hit the field.

And no I wasn't all too upset to see Chavis go.

Steele called defenses:

2007(Bama) 341 yards 21.8 points per game
2009(Clemson) 314 yards 20.4 points per game
2010(Clemson) 320 yards 18.8 points per game
2011(Clemson) 394 yards 29.3 points per game

No idea if he called defense at Baylor. But those stats are not a good indication of a good play caller.

The Baylor before they started throwing money at it sucked and not even Lombardi could have won there.

And I guess you are also that guy who sees one game where his defense gave up 70 and assumes that is the package that will 100% show up here. Way to be myopic and exclude the 2 years when "statistically" his defenses were top 20.

Steele has had an up and down career as a DC and a great career as a recruiter and assistant. I would like to think that his time spent with Nick Saban and Kirby Smart have improved his abilities as a DC and he could pan out to be a solid DC for LSU. It is an underwhelming hire as I was expecting a home run but this might end up scoring a run anyway. The LSU hive-mind here is strong and people are freaking out about anything these days.

Our Former DC was recognized as one of the best in the nation and left to become the DC at a conference rival.

Our new DC reported into the DC as a position coach at another rival school. And had only worked there 9 months.

We had numerous great recruiters and very good DC's who expressed interest in our DC job over the last 2 weeks.

Les Miles, his agent, and another Michigan alum and o-lineman handled the coaching search. None of the 3 have really established their chops on the offensive side of the ball in college football. They collectively have zero chops on the defensive side.

Put those 4 things together and tell me why people don't have concerns... and I have found a couple of things to like in the guy... but I never interviewed him or the other candidates.
