That is not the surprise. The surprise is McMillan is number 1. He obviously had the best spring although everybody assumes Myles is ahead of him

They are rotating all the QBs every scrimmage, who is 1st, 2nd, etc means nothing right now

What decides the depth chart is not who goes first in drills, but the number of reps.
Later, when the pecking order becomes more clear from the number of reps you can look at do those reps happen with 1st team or 2nd team.
All the QBs are getting about the same number of reps right now. Hence, no one is 4th. No one is 1st.

1. All freshman, especially QBs, have to progress year over year. Brennan could have hit a plateau, progressed but not enough, having trouble adjusting to a new scheme (another, separate type of progression), etc. It's not binary- good or not. It's linear- get better or get passed.
2. Canada. Canada could've evaluated or saw something he values more than Ensminger. That's not a knock against either, just one coach valuing something more than the other. For example, one coach could value leadership and audibles more than another who looks more at arm strength and body/arm mechanics. No different than a DL coach who values twitch over size.
