Not justifying Brennan’s play at all but just something to think about.

I vividly remember the same things being said about Joe in year 1 about not letting it rip

The difference is he played in a pre Brady offense with no experience. Brennan has been here for 4 years and looks timid out there

Don't you think the offensive scheme/approach might have been just a little bit different in 2018? It becomes a bit more necessary to hold on to the ball too long with you only have 2 WR's running long developing routes with everyone else trying to max protect.

lmao! Didn’t run straight into the D-Lineman just to get off the field though did he?

Burrow also had more proven skill position players to work with.

I made a post referring back to the Rant saying exactly this in a post. Too many people ready to quit on Brennan after 1 damn game.

I am Not going to quit on him.

He needs confidence and that’s hard.

Hopefully he can rip apart Missouri and Vanderbilt and realize he can do this. Then do it against Florida.

Joe never for 1 second lacked confidence.

I mean, did anyone think that LSU could possibly be staring at a 2-3 start to the season?

His play earned criticism. Deal with it.

the inability of posters on this board to acknolwedge the difference between the offensive scheme in Burrow's first year in 2018 and Brennan's 2020 (second year in the system) is just mind boggling.

Did he though?

RB's were Brossette and CEH who both had very little playing time up to that point

WR's consisted of Jefferson, Giles, Anderson, Sullivan, Dillion, (probably forgetting some). Chase and Marshall were both freshman and didn't play much early. The only one of those that had significant playing time was Giles at Texas Tech and we know how that turned out...

Main TE was Moreau who if I remembered correctly hadn't had much playing time in the previous seasons either.

I mean, I watched all of Burrow's starts in his first year and despite having less time in the system, he showed a ton of confidence and poise in the pocket that Brennan didn't.

We aren't ready to quit on our QB, he will get confidence and get better. We just expected a little bit more considering how long Brennan has been here, and the fact that it's Mississippi freaking state AT HOME, breaking in a new offense and defense.

That is something he had more of than any QB I've ever seen.

I will say that although he had worse plays to run, he was definitely criticized for holding the ball too long and a good way through the 2018 season, a lot of people on here started saying he was just a game manager and not really the answer after a poor game against State and getting shut out by Bama. After the aTm game (even though we lost), the vast majority of LSU fans were on board with Burrow though.

Brennan won’t be Joe, but the point is on day one Burrow wasn’t Joe either. He improved as he went on. By year two he was our best player of all time, but in year one at LSU he wasn’t the best player on our team.

No one knows how Brennan will wind up, but it’s certainly reasonable to believe he will improve as the season wears on.

And yes many noted that Burrow held onto the ball too long and that includes Coach O. But wd saw him get demonstrably better. Brennan needs to do the same thing.

Burrow and Brennan spent the exact same amount of time with Brady.
