Even though they beat The Saturday Post in court
Did your class cover the testimony of the guy that heard the phone discussions, and took notes..supposedly not a football fan, but gave intricate details to play formations and whatnot?

Overview of the case only, we went over 47 cases plus like a day of introduction to each section. It was under our 4th section: Media Liability for Defamation.
ETA: Part of my case brief for those too lazy to look it up;
Curtis Publishing Co. v. Butts
In the case of Curtis Publishing Co. v. Butts, an article was published in The Saturday Evening Post that accused Wally Butts, the Athletic Director and former football coach of UGA, of conspiring with Alabama football coach Paul "Bear" Bryant to fix a football game between the two teams. In the claim, it is alleged that George Burnett had accidentally overheard the alleged conversation between the coaches weeks before the game. Burnett also claimed to have taken detailed notes of the conversation which included specific plays and schemes. The Post also stated that the Southeastern Conference (SEC) was investigating these allegations made by Burnett.
Butts filed a diversity libel against the Curtis Publishing Co., publishers of the Post, in federal district court in Georgia. He was awarded $3.06 million in general and punitive damages. The trial court reduced the amount to $460 thousand and the Fifth Circuit affirmed the judgment of the District Court.
...
The U.S. Supreme Court granted certiorari in both cases, ruling on them concurrently because they raised many of the same issues.
By a 5-4 vote, the Court upheld the decision in the Curtis Publishing Co. v. Butts case.

FWIW, we are probably carrying this on a little too long, but any reasonable person has to wonder a little bit about some of this stuff.
My suggestion to the SEC is to hire an independent agency (located outside of the Southeast) which is responsible for hiring and assigning referees to games.

we might be but they are just upset bc they know we are uncovering some shady shite. Even if mr dick wasn't cheating it sure seems like a risk to let a bama man near the booth

Thing is, this is nothing new at all. Officials have been cheating for BOTH AL schools for decades.

What did you think, guilty or not? My uncles and father thought guilty as sin.
One of my uncles told me a tale of the Bear coming duck hunting here in South Louisiana back in the day, said a former game warden or whatnot, took him on preserve land, and/or possibly out of season too? Busy schedule for nation's big HC, gotta get some hunting in when his schedule permitted.
I guess only rules and laws exist, if and until one's caught?
P.S. Memphis, my father taught me young, Ky Hoops and Bama Football, can and will get away with murder, and get all the calls. Thank goodness for us, that Skip came, and made LSU Baseball the SEC's Diamond King.

The instant replay booth has three people inside, only one of which is the replay official and has any decision-making authority or role.
What are the other two for?

In other news, SEC commissioner Mike Slive announced today that the SEC will now use Roll Tide Roll, Inc to screen applicants for officiating jobs within the SEC. This group will also be responsible for assigning officials to specific games at their discretion .

Good question.
And it's a little fishy for the SEC to say only "one person has decision-making abilities" while in the same breathe the league says that there is in fact a replay supervisor in the same booth looking over the shoulder of said replay official.
So the replay supervisor has no authority over the replay official?? I call bullshite on that.

Kentucky, Kentucky, the best team money can buy...
I grew up with that, and it's why I hate both Bama and Kentucky to this day. No one was happier than me when that fed ex package to the Kentucky recruit busted and the tape case full o' cash was discovered by the employees...good fricking times.

The SEC has this to say:
"The specific gentleman in the booth... served as the "communicator" in the ...game, Not the replay official...he is not a graduate of any sec school. Our officiating and replay rules are not for public dissemination."
WTF is up with that?
Essentially they don't think they have an obligation to be transparent? To show they have an appropriate officiating system and integrity?
Hell yes they do

Just like baseball didn't have to be upfront and open about their drug testing. I would LOVE to see Slive and Redding called to testify before Congress about this bullshite.

Yeah, WTF is up with that statement??
Rules not up for public dissemination? How can you have a game unless the rules are known?

I didn't believe a conspiracy, and still don't, but this is starting to smell. The link disappearing reeks of a coverup, but if everything is on the up and up, there's no need for a cover up.
I'm really starting to believe the SEC scr*w*d up by letting this guy anywhere near the booth, and he scr*w*d them by influencing calls for BAMA. I believe it's an issue of inexcusable imcompetence on the part of the SEC, and this guy taking advantage of the situation. Anyhow, that's my opinion.
