Yep but still if he could even just reassume his role from last year of eating innings when we're trailing in a close game and keeping us in it until the bats wake up it would be huge. 2-3 scoreless innings from him in game 1 vs SC likely wins us that game

Yep. Collins has the stuff to be really productive, he just needed to put it all together. Seems he's well on his way to doing that.

It’s a start and he is gaining confidence. Still too many walks but it is improvement. The walk he had yesterday could have been avoided by throwing a fastball or two. I would like to see him command his fastball to get to the awesome curve.

I’d rather look at his month of April

8ip
10k
1 H
4bb
65% strikes (vs 45% first 5app)

93 mph fastball and 77 mph curve... wicked change of speed. Just needs to work on control and maybe another pitch.

Someone mentioned it yesterday but I think in Skenes starts if it’s close having Collins come in after Skenes could be filthy. Go from 100 to 73

I think that would be devastating but as long as we give run support when Skenes pitches they are not beating us. I would rather not waste our good relievers and save them for Sat and Sun when we have no clue what the starters will give us.

Huh? Collins can run it up in the mid 90s. Are you talking about curve ball?

Yea talking going from guy that hits 100 and is more of a high velocity pitcher followed by Collins who primarily uses his curve ball. Yes Collins can touch 93-94 fastball but his go to pitch is the curve.

That’s why i said if close. Skenes is probably good for 7 an outing. We still need to close the final 2 innings, if it’s in striking distance then Collins comes in, if not we bring a less high leverage guy.

I’m not saying to do it while up 8 runs.

The slowest curve yesterday was either 74 or 71. A 20-23 mph differential is absurd. THAT is his advantage.

Yep the massive curve going slow and being a strike can really amplify the fastball.

Our team has been walking too many batters as a whole but he has definitely improved and hope he continues to do so. He is going to be needed in tough spots for the rest of the season.

He has an awesome curve but I’d like to see them mix in the FB a little more often too. Sometimes he has a little trouble with location on the FB so maybe that’s why he’s so curve heavy IDK. But he definitely is throwing with confidence.

The strike zone is terrible this year it’ll be hard for any pitcher to not walk batters without pitching it down the middle every time.

And that it is a 12-6 curve. That is hard to hit. Even when they know it’s coming, they have a hard time hitting it.
