Brian Kelly post game interview observation

Why do you think Kelly was so emotional after the game last night? That interview was raw emotion and he was wearing it on his sleeve. The media has tried to tell us all that he isn’t a good fit, the players don’t like him, the fans do not like him, (whatever else Stephen A said a few weeks ago, which now makes him look like an idiot).
There is something different about this university. We’ve all heard the rumors that Saban regrets leaving BR, he still has good friends here, etc. What is it exactly that makes this place so damn special because I feel that way, even as a fan. Watching that interview let me know that he’s 100% bought in and knows he can stay here until he coaches his last game, while cementing his legacy.
The biggest thing that sticks out to me is the way he interacts with the media in BR compared to South Bend. He’s so much more easy going, happy, jovial, etc. It’s almost like he’s a different person than he was while in South Bend. We are very lucky he took the job….. last night makes me think he absolutely loves it here.
I wanted to add an edit, for everyone talking about how the atmosphere was rare and kind of a generational type feel, I recommend watching the sky cast replay on ESPN. There are no announcers and you just hear Dan Borne announcing, the band, cheering, etc….giving you the best stadium feeling without being there. I try to watch every single home game the next day on skycast.

I agree that his media interactions are different than at ND.

The passion. It’s just different down here. I think he’s seen these kids mature before his eyes, and he’s a proud papa.

Notre Dame are a bunch of stiffs. He was one of them then.

I think while true, he knows he is at the right university, he took lesser talent and beat the great one - and knows not only how much more is to come, that he can and will elevate his coaching brand to Saban’s level, that which LSU enables.

He’s never been in a stadium that electric. Baw knows he’s sitting on a monster.

born and bred new orleanians and south louisianans are just a special bunch

To me, his emotions came from a man that left everything in pursuit of greatness. He had never coached in the south and had a comfortable job at Notre Dame. But in order to pursue true greatness he left for LSU. He believed in himself and his coaching abilities. The university and state accepted him, and gave him what he needed to win and he has done so. So I guess his emotions were basically, I believed in myself, the university and state believed in me, and I just beat Nick Saban’s Alabama.

Most people don't care where a coach came from, Miles was a yankee and well liked at first. We just want to win, the "culture" part is just a media narrative that retarded fans on message boards followed. Coaches like being here, best fan base in college football, best atmosphere, easy recruiting, submissive media.

Yep.
I believe Saban said he knew the potential LSU had when he accepted the job. He knows he could have had the same dynasty here that he has at bama, but with more appreciative fans.
He realized when BK took this job, he had a much more difficult road ahead of him. He never dreamed losing to BK in year one. The bama players and fans got their round one punch in the nose.
BK knew he could beat the best with the talent and resources here. His job at LSU will be much easier than at ND.
It will only get better.
The players on the LSU roster see the future is bright and they are hungry for more.
The future recruits just sat up in their seats and are paying attention.

Every post I have read here today about last night's game has guys that have been going to games for decades saying that was the best game in Death Valley possibly ever. You think he's ever experienced something like that as a coach? I think he realized last night how special a home game in Death Valley in November can be. I'd be choked up too.

It may just be like he said when hired - he has alignment with the University President as well as the A/D. Some schools have a schism between the school side and the sports side. At LSU, the president realizes that strong sports programs help the educational programs in terms of name recognition, donor dollars, and appeal to new students. The Alignment is real!

Idk about special, but the people are different. That’s why you see so many people move for work or whatever reason, ultimately to come back at some point in their life. What are they coming back to - I think we can all agree that south Louisiana doesn’t offer much.

I agree
I bet if you asked him he will tell you Saturday was a game atmosphere he has NEVER experienced
Hell I get goosebumps every time I watch replay of the two point conversation
I probably watched it 20 times today

It was his first real night game. He felt the passion all night. Just as the interview started, the band cranked up “Pre Game”. It’s all hit him at that time and he knew he made the right decision to come here bc of the passion. If that doesn’t make you emotional in that situation , you aren’t human.

I bet CBK also realized the true benifit to night games in DV and exerts max influence to secure them for important conference match ups.

What people around the country don’t get about Louisiana is we don’t care where your from or how you got here. If you embrace the state the state will embrace you. Winning always helps too.

I can't think of a good way to say this, but here we go. I'm going pose this as if a person who doesn't know shite about football, LSU, or ND observed it and is trying to describe what he sees:
As a coach at ND you represent the university and all that represents, you just do it as the head coach. And there's a certain beauty to that.
As HBC at LSU you are the fricking HBC of LSU. It's your show, your team, and you go do you.
-------------------------------------------------------
I'll put it this way- do you think ND admin would have put up with Les' press conferences? Well, maybe. But it would have driven the Jesuits nuts and the other admin.
It's a little bit about freedom to be him as HBC, not as a rep of LSU. It's a little bit about exceeding expectations, the excitement that comes with that, and knowing it takes players that care as much as you do (as HBC) to do that. It's a little selfish too (and that's ok) where he's probably looking around, seeing the trajectory, and thinking to himself "I CAN win a championship here".
But it is mostly about the fact that to be truly Aligned, all parties have to be emotionally invested. And the players have to see it in the coaches and the coaches have to see it in the players. Then, and only then, can you put the things in place that gets everbody pulling in the same direction.
I think it just simply hit CBK like a ton of bricks where he was emotionally invested, but until then he didn't realize how much because the players sucked him in deeper than he thought he would do himself intentionally.
