What a moronic statement. A coach can try to put players in the best position to succeed, but cannot force a player to put in the work or effort. I am amazed at the lack of appreciation some people show for coaches like CJJ who come in and right the ship.

I don't think acknowledging that the current team had issues that likely stemmed from NIL and promises is some indictment on JJ. Every coach, at every school, in every sport has to change how they do things from year to year to some extent. Nick Saban changed his entire philosophy halfway through his Bama tenure because the way he wanted to do things didn't work anymore. The idea that just because a coach won a natty that he never has to change anything he does is crazy talk. Thats how you end up with Dabo. Its adapt or die.

Jay will change an approach mid-year if he has to. See what happened with Wes and the pitch calling by the last few weeks of the sec. It’s no secret as to how our bullpen in 2023 went from mediocre to lights out the last 3rd of the year.

I think Jay did the same thing this year as well. We went from struggling out of the pen outside of Herring and Auck to being really good. BUT I do think its a Jay thing to run a lot of guys out there throughout the year and then tighten up his rotation in the last few series to get ready for post season.

Well what exactly is he supposed to do otherwise? It gives everyone a chance to produce throughout much of the season then put your best out there or go home.

The travel ball mentality is play no matter what or switch to another team. Jay can’t just keep kids out there no matter what.

This is a huge loss. He was our starting catcher every year before injury. Then we experimented with him in RF. He never looked settled to me. The dude will be an absolute studd when fully healthy and catching full time.

I don't think his approach is wrong. If anything, I find it frustrating at the start of conference play and wish he'd settle on his best relievers sooner.

Meh

Depends on his replacement. He was never better than average.

He did. You had at least 4 players with guaranteed playing time and NIL money. This caused issues within the team. But at the end of the day that’s Jay’s fault. People don’t want to admit it but JJ has to make some changes with the way he does things.

I agree, and I appreciate your non-cryptic honesty. I was talking to my son today, and I said I didn't think the LSU baseball team really liked each other very much for most of the season. It was just a weird dynamic most of the year. They--or Jay--figured something out and had them playing as well as they could, but it wasn't enough. And I think guarantees and NIL makes the most sense of what could have caused some of the friction.

I mean, you've gotta promise Jacob Berry a starting spot in the field your 1st year in Baton Rouge. And you've got to promise Tommy White 3rd base in your 2nd. Probably Holman a weekend spot in the rotation this year. But I don't see a whole lot more that should have been guaranteed anything more than an opportunity to compete.

And while we're talking about Neal, I'm not gonna even really comment on him or his game personally. But I just think it's incredibly stupid for guys--in any sport--to skip a grade and reclassify a year early unless your name is Bryce Harper. You think you're that good, finish high school and go to JUCO and see if you if you're good enough to get drafted as a freshman. Or sophomore. Coming into a place like LSU at 17 and trying to hit against Paul Skenes and Hurston Waldrup and Hagan Smith and even guys on a tier below is retarded. I just don't see the benefit. Even if you could convince me there was one, the risk reward is just not worth it for almost 99% of the players. Think Christian Little wishes he had another year of eligibility?

He won the CWS last year and YOU think he needs to change. I think I will trust the guy that has the title of Coach of a National Championship Team over a random keyboard genius.
