Dumervil needs to step it up or he is going to get passed up.

To me he seems immature. Hopefully that's all it is.

There's a couple of different versions of immature.

There's one that one coach I had called "frolicking" as in "stop frolicking around!". It sounded strange, and was meant to because it was when you weren't taking stuff as serious as he wanted to. It really wasn't an issue, just lack of focus at that moment in time.

Then there's the immature where you don't put in work, don't pay attention, assume there's no consequences for your actions including not doing what you're expected to, and just plain pout every time a coach or a teammate offers criticism (constructive or not).

Yes- that's Dumervil's biggest problem. It isn't a rare or unique problem with freshmen, red shirt or not. But it has a lasting impact. You can't make up time. Workout time. Conditioning time. Drill time. None of it. You can't get that back and you have to work extra to catch back up to where you should be, much less get ahead.

So yep- you are right. Getting passed up is what happens when you're the worst type of immature and you lose that time (a.k.a. opportunities).

And when you start getting passed you know it. The coaches for sure will let you know about it in their attention, tone, and maybe even in frequency of arse chewings.

When the player finally realizes it the result is always binary (by definition). Some it lights a fire under them. Some give up (which is the same as continuing the same as before). Dumervil is at that point; the expectation was that at this point he should be neck and neck for a starting spot. He's not. We will see where he goes from here.

Uncle Elvis needs to gnaw on that arse a little.

Is this inside info or are you making assumptions based on situation?

The main pushback I’d have is that he’s only a redshirt freshman so id find it hard to believe that the coaches thought he’d be pushing for a starting position by now.

Most OL take 3 years before they are physically and mentally ready to be an effective starter so idk why they’d think he’d be a starter going into year 2. It’s not like he was a 5 star expected to jump right in.

2019's best unit was the O-Line.

Not even remotely true. Don’t be fooled by the Moore award. That line struggled at numerous things. Great quarterback, running back, and wide receiver play covered up for them. Thank goodness.

Joe Burrow got rid of the ball quickly or he moved his legs, that helps any O line.

Joe Burrow had a quick release or could scramble in the pocket. A good running game and quick receivers helped that offense. It was not really a great line. Bama last year was a great line.

The OL is the one area that this coaching staff has to
continue to improve on the field and recruiting wise.
For whatever reason LSU has struggled to get great OL.
Ala and Geo. for whatever reason get OL like we get Wrs
and DBs. Lsu cant depend on fr. or tr.fr on OL.,but thats
where we are.I believe within the next couple of years
OL will become a strength. Its going to take time.Hopefully
the coaching will offset this weakness like it did in 2019.

Of course, but it has been a weak point more often than not at LSU for a long time.

If those guys are in great shape, LSU could make some serious noise this year.
