He was quoted in a Bleacher Report write up about a "sluggish" o-line saying "Things either change or they stay the same. The standard is (expletive) championships."

I personally love this mentality with the players. He definitely seems to be starting things out on the right foot with the team. GEAUX

It’s obviously a necessary change over what we had before. Ed Ingram was quoted saying little things are big things to coach Davis which is wonderful and should work for a veteran OL like we have. The only thing I can see going wrong is if our guys have an information overload and think too much because they are worried about every little thing.

I don’t think this will be the case, but it’s the only thing I can see going wrong.

We churn out top NFL caliber players year in and year out except for O line, give or take a few guys here and there. Something’s gotta change with that if we want to consistently beat other top teams, especially the gumps. They kill us on the line

This team will go only so far as the O-line can do its job.

Love the disciplinarian approach to a group that has been overweight every year.

Yeah, that’s true of most teams.

It starts with the oline. They can make or brake the entire offense. This has been the case. They looked pretty good in 19 but superman bailed them out on countless occasions.
It starts with Moffitt delivering o and d linemen to the preseason in SEC shape. This HAS NOT been the case.

Hopefully the opposite happens, that the little things are so drilled in that they no longer need to think about them and they can focus more on just playing.

I think “information overload” was the issue with Cregg, especially in the interior. Cregg had an NFL hands off style of coaching, where the OL was put through a lot of simulated motions.

I believe Davis will bring a more simplified and aggressive approach to the OL, that will allow younger and more talented OL to see the field earlier.

What a meaningless thing to say. Right up there with "It is what it is."

2019's best unit was the O-Line.

Other people are reporting that he said “you’re either going to change or quit…. You’re not going to stay the same.”

He's definitely throwing down the gauntlet.

It's less of a "new sheriff in town" and more of "better way of doing things". The catch is, especially for him (and his way of coaching) AND the way an OL functions (including practices, not just game time) is that they all have to be doing it that way.

Poster above is right- he has a different way for his OLmen to think regarding line-calls and assignments. It's a different process and communication. Call it communication or call it process- it is a different way of thinking.

He doesn't need "buy in".

He REQUIRES "opt in". And if you aren't going to "opt in", you need to opt the hell out and move on.

And all this spills over into off the field (S&C) and in meeting/film rooms. It's a holistic approach in the mindset because it has to be. Hence the required change in behavior that goes with the required change in the way of thinking.

Lots of OL coaches want to do it this way. Few can pull it off. I think Pittman has influenced him enough in the "how" when Davis already knew the "what". This language and demands on the players are part of the "how", which OL that have played for Pittman are very familiar with.

To pull it off requires a step-change, not incremental in mindsets, work ethics, and day to day thinking on the practice field. This is part of that step-change. If he's saying it- it has been implemented. And we're well on our way.

Want to see if it works? Watch Dellinger and Dumervil. One will show up like he needs to (Dellinger) and Dumervil will show up early like we want him to. Not necessarily starting, but they'll be in and out with slaps on the arse when they come out instead of dirty looks.
