UPDATE: Auburn is getting about 1/5 of the second place human votes over Ohio State, but they are a full spot behind them in the computers. Auburn would get a bigger bump in the computers than Ohio State next week but it wouldn't be much, so Auburn is going to need A LOT more help from the voters. They would need to obliterate Mizzou while OSU struggles to have any chance.

lsu matt- Why would Brad Edwards project LSU to Cotton as he has Auburn to Sugar and Mizzou to Outback. Does he not understand the rules of the SEC that the Cotton must take the sec game loser??

I don't know that I understand them - they aren't very clear and I am going by a link someone posted. Hopefully, they will be cleared up as the week progresses.

He's projection makes sense based on past rules: Outback takes an East team (Mizzou) and Cotton takes a West team (LSU). If the Outback is happy with that, then maybe Brad is right. But if Outback doesn't want to take a team from the mid west who's fans traveled once already, they may exercise this new rule (the way I understand it) and force the Cotton to take Mizzou (which they may be okay with anyway).

I just looked at collegefootballnews.com and they have A&M vs UT in Cotton and us against Duke in Chicken. Surely no way this could happen???

If it comes down to LSU and A&M for the Cotton bowl I would think the Cotton would want to take a 9-3 team over an 8-4 team that lost 2 in a row, but a Texas vs. Texas A&M bowl would have quite the national appeal.

Although I hear that neither Texas nor A&M want to play each other

Then why not UGA in 2012?

LSU is going to the Cotton Bowl.

If FSU and Ohio St play in the title game, the winner of the SECCG goes to the Sugar and Bama goes to the Orange. The Cap One will take SC because they will be ranked higher than the loser of the SECCG. The loser of the SECCG goes to the Outback, LSU to the Cotton, A&M to the Chick Fil A and Georgia to the Gator.

If Auburn or Mizzou make it to the national title game, then Bama goes to the Sugar while the same scenario for the other bowls as described above will be the same. SC would still go the Cap One Bowl and the SECCG game loser goes to Tampa.

Little bit different. If Auburn loses the SECCG and cap1 picks South Carolina, Auburn will go to Cotton due to the "safety net" rule this year and we go to outback.

I just hope for absolute chaos this coming weekend. I want insanity. I honestly think Michigan State beats Ohio State anyway. I think Duke has no chance but then again they haven't all year either. If both those two teams lost I would love to see what shakes out.

I'd rather the gator bowl over the cotton.

Oh dear god no Capt. If that happens, Alabama vs. Auburn in NC rematch. I don't think I could handle it.

As far as the confusion, the Cotton THIS year is the safety net bowl. They will want Mizzou regardless IMO. New blood, close, will travel to see an old B12 conference team.

A&M to Cotton would frustrate me, but not Mizzou - they've had a hel of a season.

Any thoughts on our opponents?

Personally, I think we'd face the following:

Cotton: Winner of Baylor/Texas -- the Cotton Bowl probably wants to put Texas here, honestly, but I don't think they could realistically justify picking 8-4 Texas over 11-1 Baylor if the latter beat the former on the final week of the season. If Texas beats Baylor then they're absolutely in. Only other possibility is... Texas, if they lose to Baylor and Oklahoma State loses to Oklahoma. Then Baylor wins the Big XII, and Texas is the best choice for the Cotton Bowl of UT/OU/OSU.

Capital One: I think they take Michigan State or Wisconsin, in that order of preference. Michigan State might be BCS bound regardless of the outcome of the Big Ten Championship Game -- if they win they're obviously going to the Rose Bowl, but if they lose they'll still be eligible for an at-large bid, and frankly none of the at-large options are particularly good this year. I could easily see the Rose Bowl keeping the conference tie-in and taking a runner-up 11-2 Michigan State team. That would leave Wisconsin as the best of the rest in the Big Ten (if Ohio State loses, they'll get snapped up as an at-large quickly).

Outback: They get the next Big Ten team, so it's basically a question of the Big Ten pecking order. I think this year the order is:

Ohio State > Michigan State > Wisconsin > Nebraska > Michigan > Iowa > Minnesota

If I'm right re: Capital One + Rose Bowl, it'll be Nebraska according to that list. If not, then Wisconsin (because Michigan State would go to the Cap One).

Chick-Fil-A: Has to be Clemson at this point. The Orange Bowl will take Alabama in a heartbeat as its replacement for Florida State, and then they get their choice of Oregon, the Pac-12 CG loser and Clemson. I think they take Oregon over Clemson for the national appeal. If they do take Clemson, then you can more or less bank on the Chick-Fil-A Bowl taking Virginia Tech or Miami (FL) (I'd say Tech). I think the most likely is Clemson, then Virginia Tech, then Miami (FL).

Gator: Big Ten's fourth non-BCS bowl. Per the previous listing, this would be Iowa (if Michigan State goes BCS bowling) or Michigan (if MSU doesn't).

What is Glenn Guilbeau's source on this? He's a shitty journalist with no credibility and I wouldn't doubt in the least that he'd pull that shite off of the Tiger Rant. I am sure there's a legit source for this (if it's true) out there somewhere, but if I'm just counting on GG to get it right, I'm going to assume it's wrong.
