I mean he has a ring.... but furthermore O needs to build and maintain a program. Having one natty season and then disappointing seasons afterwards is not a program

USC opened the 2001 season going 2–5, with some sportswriters writing off the once-dominant Trojans as a dying program. However, after the slow start, Carroll's teams proceeded to go 67–7 over the next 74 games, winning a national championship and playing for another.

People act like last year was his first year. When he took over in 2016, we immediately got better. Then 2017 started rough but we showed improvement and opening up the offense some. Then 2018 we won 10 games and showed vast improvement down the stretch and the offense was clicking at the end of the season. And then of course last year.

It was mainly offensively where we improved over Miles’ teams.

I don’t know why we are shitting on O this year. He deserves flak for hiring Pelini and I’m not the biggest fan of Linehan but Christ we just had the 2019 season.

He won a Natty in under 3 yrs. what’s not working? You bunch of pansies have no idea how to overcome adversity. This $hit ain’t easy. Everyone needs to chill and let the man do his job.

Yes, yes he is. With his own tweaks/versions of it. All coaches do this. Kelly tried to recreate Oregon in the NFL (and UCLA). There are numerous examples. Some will eventually veer off onto something else; if it works it's called "evolving" (e.g. Saban). Those that don't veer off sometimes have success, sometimes not.

Last year says otherwise. Three things to keep in mind:
1. It's great to have an objective, as long as you allow for alterations. Without some vision of where you want to be you get things like Canada where you are trying everything just to try something.
2. Maybe it's the path on the way to the recreation that matters.
3. When you are working towards a certain vision, with an undefined path of exactly how to get there (i.e. open minded and open to new ideas) you get things like Brady/Munoz.

Yes, this year is a clusterfrick. Even though Brady/Munoz are gone their legacy lives on. This isn't the offense of 2018 Ensminger much less any version of a Les offense. So that influence stuck. It worked, and that is another thing we are trying to "recreate", with some success.

But this clusterfrick of a start, and likely a season, isn't a result of that vision of recreation. It is due to:
A) lost alot, field and sidelines, coupled with that 2018 class.
B) Pelini appears to have been a huge mistake.

The rest is noise and aren't primary factors. Covid, Chase, Kelly, or anything else you can imagine may play some role with individuals but they are minor because they can be negated or overcome with little effort.

You take A or B away, we're looking at taking a step back and not a clusterfrick. You put the two together... and well, you know. But those can't be undone or easily negated. We have to live with them for now.

But 2019 says the vision is right. 2018 AND 2020 says the path is very bumpy.

After arguably the greatest season in cfb history they are attacking him 3 games in

The start has absolutely sucked and we should be 3-0 but anyone who thinks this team should be competing for a playoff spot was unrealistic to begin with.

It’s the Pelini hire that has people concerned. That’s going to be a very expensive problem to fix, and probably can’t happen this year.

Nobody expected this team to compete for a playoff spot in 2020. But we did expect it for 2021, and the needed actions not taken this year will have consequences next year.

Well last year we fielded one of the best college teams of all time. So, he did something right.

But I agree, that it isn't working. We lost 17 players from last years team, and crucial coaches. A coach has to minimize that damage. That's pretty severe.

I understand there's not much you can do about someone leaving for a higher position, but that's the risk you take running the program the way Coach O is running it. You're going to lose all of your good coaches and you have be 100% SURE of your hires.

CEO got lucky with Burrow. This is becoming clearer and clearer each game.

Let's be honest, none of CEO's hires have been jaw dropping outside of Joe Brady and he needed Burrow to pull it off.

I want to like CEO but with a budget and talent like LSU has, having this style of defense is fireable, IMO. Les never had this.

Which that’s even better and further dispels the idea of “one year wonder”, if you are more than 3 years in, that is your program 100 percent, and he won the Natty.

with good reason...I still have hope they can get things corrected. It has only been 3 games...well 2 terrible performances. I get that it is O's responsibility to have team focused and hungry but Saban said the biggest issue after winning a national title is getting 18-22 yr olds to be motivated and focused the following season. I believe this is part of the problem.

plenty of people on this board thought we should be playoff contenders this year

I agree fire a coach 3 games removed from a national championship and probably best team in the history of the sport.

I’m sure there will be top notch coaches lining up to take the job with that type of job security.
