Bored and thinking

I’m no football genius, kiffin and the coaches know way more than I do and I’m not going to pretend like I know Xs and Os like they do but…
What about a formation near the goal line (or anywhere for that matter on short yardage) where you’ve got Clark and Leavitt lined up like you’re going to do the direct RB snap you’ve run frequently. Now they’ve shown they can shift and throw out of that formation before the snap as they did against A&M…
I just feel like there’s are a so many different things you could do with that to trick the defense.
You could shift them around behind the line, snap it straight to either of them, they could both run or pass on the play… you could even run a little variation of a speed/run pass option with either of them being able to run and throw.
Idk it’s 1:30 on a Thursday and we play Mcnesse this week so I’m bored as hell.
Real Xs and Os ball knowers come in here and tell me why this wouldn’t work (genuinely interested to here)

Oh its coming. I could see a 4th goal vs bama and something of this nature comes to fruition.

This is what I’ve been thinking as well… if I thought of it then kiffin 1 million percent has. I’m excited.

They’ve already done this right? Or maybe it was Jones in wildcat & Clark lined up as RB. I thought there was a play or 2 with Clark & Leavitt both in the backfield but maybe not
ETA: it was Jones at Wildcat & Clark instead of Leavitt
Btw could have thrown this to Clark for an easy TD…. He is faster than that DB and already has him out leveraged

I actually love the idea, but I'm sure you'll find people bored enough to trash it. It would force the defense to have to consider so many potential threats. Both can run, both can pass, option pitch from one to the other is another tough wrinkle to defend.
And it's focused on such a critical scenario of the game - short yardage.
I really enjoyed the breakdown posted of the play where they threw to the seam route on that short yardage play and it went for 50+ yards.
We all got to live through the Miles mentality of "tell em what you're going to do and then just be great enough to impose your will upon them". Man, that was frustrating.
But then we saw glimpses of what it was like when a coach draws up a play that completely fools the defense, and I'm talking about the Game of the Century against Bama in the regular season in 2011 when we did the reverse to... damn it I'm getting old... the tight end that was badass on a 4th and short and it shocked us too. We outsmarted them. Whodathunkit?!
Anyways, I like what you're suggesting, but it feels very "video-gamey". Novel idea though.

How about we line up with 2 backs, 2 or 3 Tight Ends and smash somebody in the face?

I think Les Miles is posting on the board

100%
I feel like Kiffin had been setting up that 4th and 1 call going back to Clemson.
I love that we FINALLY have a legit tactician as HC in BR

Welcome to the world of X's & O's! Now, think Lombardi could speak hours on one play, the sweep. Yes, you are up way to late. But that doesn't mean you are wrong and can't have fun creating!

I just don’t get why we over complicate getting a yard.
Posted on 10/1/26 at 1:57 pm to SlaughterDale
As long as we've drilled it enough to create chaos and confusion for the other side and not our own.

You should absolutely, be able to tell the Defense, "we are about to run it down your throat" then do it, and get a yard... Yes, very 'Les Miles' I know.
When you own the line of scrimmage and prove you can steal a yard at will, That sets the course for all these other more inventive plays...
You SHOULD be able to blow the D back a yard... and that in turn means, you can take a big chunk play in a short yardage opportunity, as well.

If it were so damn easy to get a yard everyone would do it. And did you see what happened against A&M? We got more than 1 yard lol. They don’t just run this play on the goal line.

I guess you started watching Football 5 years ago.

20+ actually. Not sure what you’re so upset about exactly? Your ego is showing quite a bit here. This is a made up play that doesn’t exist.

The excuse is always “we don’t have time to work on the QB/Center exchange but to score TDs instead of FGs is more than worth the extra time.

Never said we should replace lining up and getting a yard I was just pointing out a potential wrinkle. You completely moved the goal post with your own nonsense.
