It is not the responsibility of the AD to "find" him a new job within the AD, and that won't happen.
But Bertman did... So I disagree with this. the AD can and will interfere with hirings all of the time. Don't you think for 1 minute that if Les was making a hire, it isn't being reviewed by the AD adn approved...
She may feel comfortable with the assistants she will be losing 2+ million with the next few years, but she will still be losing 2+ million.
Alleva is a sorry arse AD as been mentioend on here MANY times.
A sorry as Duke person with no loyalty or understanding of LSU traditions or its people. Good freakin luck Tiger Fans.

Bertman could do that because Chancellor had no staff with him and hadn't been in the college game in a decade.

They'd still lose that 2 mill with Starkey so I don't know why you keep harping on it.

Bob Starkey Appreciation Thread: What happened
to it?
to it?

I hope someone can inform me on this, but if women's basketball loses 2 million a year how will that affect me?

Can't believe the women's basketball team is letting him go. An honest man who worked at LSU for more than two decades and guided the program behind closed doors.
I guess they couldn't afford him.
ranter at Work...
So sick of seeing these post about Starkey. First, like previously stated, it's a very unstable career, the fact he stuck at one place this long is amazing. Second, like previously stated, why shouldn't Caldwell be able to bring in her staff and the people she wants? For as good as Starkey is, he hasn't helped us the past few years even if he wasn't the head coach, many of you act like he called the shots...

This dude has no idea how to hire a big time coach. You don't offer a good coach a job and add, "The job's yours, but only if you keep one of our current assistant coaches." Part of the job of a head coach is to assemble his/her staff. That is what the new coach is being payed $700,000 a year for. LSU traditions or loyalty have nothing to do with this. If LSU tradition and loyalty was so great at this current time, we wouldn't be making a coaching change.
None of my above statements are in anyway derrogatory towards Coach Starkey. He has done a great job at LSU, but he also understands that in coaching, the head coach gets to hire their own staff. If the new coach wants to bring her entire staff, that she has been working with for a few years now, with her, it is well within her rights.

you are being completely irrational and its coming off as rather pathetic
If we are going to lose 2 million a year, we may as well be on national tv as many times as possible (and we wouldn't lose 2 million if we are good)

NCAA has rules on how many coaches you can have on staff. The new coach probably didn't want to let go any of her staff and leave them jobless in favor of Starkey who she doesn't know. I don't blame her.

I'm in. Classy guy all the way around. He's one of my favorite Tiger coaches ever 'cause he does things the right way. You will be missed Bob. Thanks for bleeding purple and gold.

Agreed, how about we get back to the "thanks for giving 22 years to LSU and helping build the Women's Basketball program into a contender"

I spent 15 years as sales manager and finance manager at a central Louisiana car dealership. The owner retired, moved to Florida and sold the dealerhsip. The new owners brought in their own managers and all of a sudden, I was out of a job.
It left a bitter taste, but hey, that's life. Nobody's fault; it happens. They had the right to bring their own people in.
I look at it like I was fortunate to stay in one place for 15 years in a cut-throat, high-turnover business.
Some folks are being irrational in this thread. I would have liked to seen Bob Starkey retained, but the new coach has a right to bring in her own staff. And yes, it speaks highly of Coach Caldwell that her entire staff at UCLA wanted to follow her to LSU.
Yes--some people are making themselves look silly in this thread.

And to get the thread back on track:
Thanks for everything, Coach Starkey. I wish you and your family nothing but the best in the future.

Thanks for your dedication to LSU, Bob. Good luck to you! I'm sure you'll land on your feet!
NOTE: For those of you bickering over why or why not he wanted a head coaching job, much of it had to do with Bob's lack of a college degree. Unless he got it in the last three seasons when Van was the head coach, Bob never finished college. Universities are pretty adamant about having coaches with degrees and prefer a master's degree.
