Truly happy for this kid. I got a feeling he is going to shine with some real coaching!

He's in a good organization to learn from

Hope he kills it up here in chi and stays on the roster.
He got a raw deal at lsu and things didn't go near as planned, he deserves this opportunity and will shine!

I'm pulling for Antonio to be successful, but the Bulls are a dumpster fire right now.

all thanks to johnny jones and his great player development

Chicago is a good situation for him. The team is in rebuild mode and there is no definitive star at SG. Because he is young (and cheap), he has a shot to catch on if he plays well.

Where's the "Blakeney will never make it blah blah and will be a overseas player" crowd at??? If we would've had a real basketball coach here to help him develop his shot selection, defense he would've been drafted. Happy for the kid!

Good for him
You are better off not getting drafted in 2nd round and trying to make a team that way

So... It's a 45 day contract starting at the beginning of the season or starting now? I don't know shite about NBA contracts in general or this one in particular.

No he can spend up to 45 days with the NBA team as well as being with their G league affiliate.

You are better off as a free agent rather than being a second round pick.
It allows you to choose a better fit to try and make a roster.

Idk about better off being undrafted but he's in better shape with an organization like the bulls then say the 76ers

Congrats to Tone being able to continue his career and play professional basketball.
Two assumptions:
1. I assume the "two-way"part means he's basically signed to a G-League contract and gets paid at the G-League rate, but would get paid at the NBA rate when/if he is called up.
2. I assume that the contract is not guaranteed--at least at first. He could be released at any time and the Bulls owe him nothing. A full NBA contract is guaranteed after, I believe, six months. I'm not sure about a "two-way."
Someone who really knows, please correct me if I'm wrong. If you're taking a wild-arse guess, then please refrain.
I think Tim Quarterman came out better to start, since he signed an actual NBA contract with Portland. He got sent down often, but was still paid at the NBA minimum wage for a rookie of 542K a year when he was at Windy City and Long Island. He was guaranteed his entire first year salary after still being with the club a certain length of time, but for a good bit of the season, his contract was not guaranteed.
The pressure really starts this second season for Tim and will be the same for Tone next year. The NBA minimum is around 1M a year for a second year player. No team is going to pay that for a guy just hanging on to the last spot on the roster. It's a constant "up or out" pressure.
Tim may actually have a better shot at that 13th-15th spot with Houston, since Houston's bench was cleared out in the Chris Paul trade. They are going to have some minimum wage guys at the bottom.
Good luck to both.
Wow. Bottom line is, JJ had three NBA players, four if you count Keith Hornsby, in 2015-2016 and couldn't get to the Dance.

For those unaware of the two way contract, it's new.
NBA restructured some d/g league (they changed the name to the G league) contracts to make it more enticing for players to play and develop over here rather than going overseas and playing internationally. NBA organizations would rather develop their own talent than try and assess it as it gets developed for a very different game, overseas.
To do this they obviously needed to pay their minor league players more because they make nothing, and this is one way they are doing it.
Instead of 15 man rosters, they now have 17 man rosters where the 2 "extra" players are these two way contracted players who can bounce up and down from the minors to NBA basically. These players are paid a salary of $75k for a season (substantially more than typical d-leaguer) then can play up to 45 days on their contracted NBA roster making league minimum which equates up to $275k for a season.
In the end this means there's 60 extra contracts total which guarantee $75k and up to $275k a season.
