[quote]This is usually how these things go, but Brian Kelly has ghosted everyone at Notre Dame. Just spoke to one assistant who saw reports on his phone tonight as he was exiting a recruit's home: "The news broke when I walked out of the house, so I look like a f----- a--hole."

His message to the team and staff:

quote:

“Men… Let me first apologize for the late night text and, more importantly, for not being able to share the news with you in person that I will be leaving Notre Dame,” the message read. “I am flying back to South Bend tonight to be able to meet with you in the morning but the news broke late today and I am sorry you found out through social media or news reports.”

quote:

“I will have more to share when we meet tomorrow at 7 a.m. but for now, just know that my love for you is limitless and I am so proud of all that you have accomplished. … I will share more in the morning when we meet,” the message continued. “Again, my sincere apologies for not being able to be the one to share the news directly with you.”

quote:

The ramifications of Kelly’s decision reached the recruiting trail. He reportedly ghosted his assistants in the final hours, some of which were busy with recruits at the time and only heard about the decision from the news and social media: “The news broke when I walked out of the house, so I look like a f–king a-hole,” one assistant told The Athletic. Administrators and boosters also had no idea the move was coming, according to the report. Notre Dame will potentially lose recruits who had committed under the assumption Kelly would be their coach. Oklahoma lost three recruits Sunday when news broke that Lincoln Riley was leaving for the USC job, and lost two more on Monday.

With news leaking on social media, things usually do not work as planned.

You don’t have a choice. You tell an assistant not to go to a recruit’s house then it gets out even earlier.

He fully intended to tell his players, coaches, and administration first this morning, but the leak and reportage beat him to it. So he put a message on the team text, and will still meet with them this morning.

Leaving is always messy, but I see a classy man.

He wasn’t my first choice due to age, but 5-10 good years is acceptable.

Excellent hire.

There’s no good time for a breakup.

It sucks for Notre Dame, but it’s just kinda how things go nowadays.

LSU did them a favor. They will get better. They will hire Fickell and he and MFreeman will be reunited
2 great young coaches. Notre Dame should send SW a thank you card

I heard he was still on the west coast recruiting and was headed back when the news broke. Not sure there was any other way for him to address it quickly.

Whoever this assistant is, don’t bring him.

Talk about making it all about you. How does news leaking make the assistant look like an arse?

Kelly has no control over the leaking of information. I’m sure he would have liked to tell players and coaches in person, but he doesn’t control Twitter.

Yet another reason that Twitter and most other social media outlets are a net negative.

Because he was in someone’s living room asking them to play for Kelly at ND.

Maybe Notre Dame should have just shut down their recruiting?

He can't control when the news breaks.

The real question is whether he went back and had that meeting with his team.

He was out recruiting himself.

Surely he met with Woody yesterday, right? Was he really "recruiting"?
