We should have gotten this done, while the man was alive, but no excuse now. Its time. Obviously our only Heisman winner, and arguably the greatest Tiger to lace them up.

Please don't come here with his off the field legal troubles after his playing days as an excuse to hold this up. He has paid his debt, and the LSU family has embraced him in recent years. It's bad enough the student section threw monopoly money at him his first time back in the 80's.

Honor the man and what he did for LSU. Put some of my TAF money to good use.

Terrible comma placement.

Anyway, I think this would've been done a lot sooner if not for the whole convicted felon thing. Following his release from prison, he and the program weren't really in communication with one another until we put his name up on the stadium.

Broski, thanks for the grammar check.

And he was around the program, plenty before they put his name up. I watched Cecil Collins rush for 232 in 1997, from his seats in the press box. I was lucky enough to be a family friend, and have had many conversations with him about this.

The biggest fall out with LSU had nothing to do with the prison time, it had to do with Billy Jr going to A&M. The LSU staff wanted him to play DL, but he was a natural LB. Jr. goes to A&M and is a first round pick by the Cowboys at... Linebacker.

Worry less about my comma placement and more about your "facts"

A&M paid him more.

Then LSU was dumb, we sure could have used him in the 80's

Billy Cannon paid his debt to society and then some. The man deserves a statue.

Am I the only one that doesn't like the sudden spurt of making statues? I feel like Skip deserves one, Maravich deserves one (although naming the arena after him is pretty sweet), Shaq deserves one (even though he had a much bigger contribution to the NBA than college basketball) but that's maybe it. Put names on stadiums, hang jerseys, retire numbers. Those things are reserved for all-time school greats. Statues though, statutes are reserved for people that will be remembered forever by anyone who calls themselves a fan of the sport. People so dominant that you can't tell the story of the sport without mentioning them....

Idk, to me there is a difference. Bring on the downvotes, but in my opinion we just have not had that person in football.

Billy Cannon was or is the most iconic figure of LSU athletics/ football of all time. He deserves a statue, period!
