Went high school and LSU with Cannon; he was for "real" he also was a pretty good basketball player started for Istrouma.

He was a decent athlete with great coordination. Hardly a freak. Too fat and slow

Billy Cannon was a freak way beyond his days. He probaly would start at LSU today. You cant say that about many guys from even 20 years ago. He was hell of a football player and LSU's only Heisman winner. Jimmy Taylor wasnt to bad either. LSU has had some great football players thru the years. Bert Jones wasnt to bad of a quaterback either.

Don't forget Cannon ran his 9.4 on a cinder track at LSU, not on a modern composite track. A significant difference. At the time his 9.4 was only 0.1 of a second off the World Record of 9.3. And this from a guy who weighed as much as some linemen of his day.
