They were using misdirection all night on offense really taking advantage of the fact this was our defense's first game. It had our guys lookin unsure and held any talent advantage we may have had in check. I hate using it as an excuse, but FSU capitalized on this advantage in a huge way with their gameplan.

Yes. It was good coaching by Norvell and good execution by Travis. LSU need to learn and grow from it.

Agreed. If we can’t make a team punt, we are in trouble. Will Rogers is coming.

I wonder oh he thought that our DL would wreck shite all night and having them play that far back would lead to pick opportunities from poor throws?

I'm thinking that was the plan as well but it was clear by 2nd qtr the defensive line wasn't getting much of a push. House refused to make adjustments it wasn't until late in 3rd qtr started seeing a few small adjustments but it was too late. Very disappointing coaching performance

Their qb was really good. Got them out of trouble multiple times

And, LB is still a major concern

In 2020 LSU played man defense almost exclusively against MSU. The result: MSU's QB...who would be benched soon after...set a SEC single game passing record.

Last year LSU consistently rushed 3 and sat back in zone all game long. Rogers completely 47 passes at a 76% completion rate. MSU punted 3 times all game. It wasn't until the 4th quarter with LSU up 28-10 that MSU's offense started to put points on the board.

The soft zone defense underneath is what LSU SHOULD play vs. MSU.

That will be a problem all year. Weakest position that we knew about were the LBs.

The Clemson transfer was their pass defense specialist. He is top notch at defending the pass, so I don't think weak LB play was the problem. In fact, I don't think LSU had a problem there; I think it was very good execution by FSU.

Do you think 3rd and 17 happened because of poor pass defense by Texas?

No matter who the dc is, the identity of LSU’s defense will always be aggressive man coverage that soft zone shite will get carved up. Especially with no Masson smith wrecking shite up the middle all season we gotta play more press

I don’t like zone either other than mixing it up to give a different look, certain down and distance situations or in prevent possibly. But with what they have at CB, I don’t think they would hold up, they would get torched in man.
If he’s going to primarily run zone, House will have to zone blitz more because last Saturday proved they can’t consistently get pressure with just the front four.

That weak arse zone is going to get us killed all year

pelini ran zone the 1st two games in 2005. QB's threw all over it as the DB's were backed off the line 10-15 yards.
