Can someone explain why our tallest player and best rim protector and rebounder played a whopping 6 minutes. Literally we lost this game on the boards and the lack of paint defense. What does this young man have to do to get more playing time.

Naz Reid has to play less.
Which adds further complications. ..

Well, he got called for over the back on a play where he had position but just happened to be taller than the guy in front of him. So, like Days and Williams, the referees were determined to not let our front court guys get a lot of minutes.

He only played 20 mins last night so that's not the reason.

I believe he was in foul trouble a lot of the game. Both teams were. Those refs were calling everything. I can’t stand when the refs determine the pace of a game like they did at the end of the first half last night but then at the end of the second half they let them play. Smart was mugged on a play and they didn’t call anything.

that call was putrid.

the refs were hell bent on every player on each team fouling out before end of regulation. then they all the sudden stopped calling fouls on UH with 10 minutes left in the 2nd half.

my point is. i'd still like to see Bigby Williams getting more minutes, even if that means cutting into Naz' time. He isn't shooting well, doesn't play defense, and for his size is....okay, at rebounding. bigby doesn't bring much offensively outside of 5 feet, but rebounds and is excellent on defense.

I agree the refs were some kind of bad but Bigby only finished with 2 fouls. He literally didn’t see the court basically the entire second half. There is absolutely no reason for that. shite KBW should be starting and playing starters minutes if you ask me. It baffles me how tall Reid is and the guy can’t out rebound guards.

51 fouls called in a college basketball game...LoL...you might see that at a biddy basketball game...the refs last night didn’t even know that’s it’s not always traveling just because you are laying on the floor sideways...

Add Smart to the list of people who should be running the point over Waters until he gets his shite together.

He absolutely needs to play more. He is a better player than Naz Reid. Naz plays like he is 6' 0" tall. We need Bigby Williams presence inside on defense. Plus, he has a decent little jump hook. Naz has no inside game at all.

That's basketball.
It's a referee driven game.
Ugh!

That's not what I saw last night. In only 20 mins he was 4-5 from around the basket with 9 FTs attempt. He can get to and play around the basket. His problem is wanting to hang around the perimeter too much.

He doesn't need to post up on the low block all the time to be effective. His face up game from 15 feet in is good enough to get inside the paint. It's just a matter of him wanting to play that game.

He needs to understand and the coaches need to make him understand that he will dominate if he stays at the low block as well as make himself a lot of money because that is where he will be playing at the next level.

Not complicated at all. Bench his arse if he keeps jacking up 3s and lets his man get offensive rebounds.

Naz should pattern his game after Karl Malone. In fact, LSU should get Karl to come work with him. (Like Bill Walton coming to work with Shaq.)

Smart is the best offensive player on the team.

The low post game in the NBA has all but disappeared. The days of running a big to the low post and working it inside is pretty much over.

Working the low post in college basketball is still effective but clearly Reid doesn't see that as his future. And he's probably right.

It's a matter of him wanting to do that for the team.

Wade is in a tight spot with Reid. Clearly the kid has talent offensively, but he's a huge liability on defense...on a team that already can't play defense. Plus, his rebounding weak.

However, Wade knows he only has one year with him and when he is on offensively he is tough to stop. I think most can see the KBW is the better option in the post for THIS TEAMS' well being. He rebounds, defends and plays with energy (he also shoots is pretty well from the FT line). LSU can make up for his lack of offense with other guys carrying that load. But they can't make up for his rebounding/interior defense when he's out. That's what's KILLING this team right now.

I'm certain Wade recognizes KBW is probably the better option for the TEAM. But when you sell out for a top 20 recruit who you know you'll only have for a year you have a hard time leaving him on the bench.
