bregman's mistake was much more inexcusable than Ross.

Love all the people that think our hitters were just "swinging for the fences".

Overall, great analysis.

everyone is pointing out the errors we made in this game as the difference, and maybe rightfully so, but we only scored ONE RUN. can't win many with only 1 run. i don't care who you are.

This game would've been won with one run.

Even if he was safe with a good throw, they don't score. They followed that up with a ground ball to Jones and 2 fly balls to Raph.

Simply can't make those errors in a low scoring game.

I agree we swung at a ton of bad pitches last night, but I disagree about swinging for the fences. Look, we only had 47 HRs this year. We didn't win 57 games by swinging for the fences and hitting HRs. We had a good batting average, pitched very well, and played solid defense.

Even with the popups and crushed pulls straight to the left fielder? They knew the field was huge and the bats and balls were crap, but they acted like they were good enough to impose their will on that ballpark, and they got their asses burned. Laird was the only guy out there trying to get on base

true, but when we're in the bottom of the 8th and that damage had already been done, and we have the tying run on and no outs, you gotta bunt with a sinker-ball pitcher on the mound. Risk of double play is high. We showed bunt twice but when the count went 2-0 im guessing he got the green light to swing. That double play killed us.

Don't you know everytime someone hits a fly ball he was swinging for the fences?

It's perfectly obvious every one of our hitters only knows how to try to hit homeruns.

There is no middle ground.
You either try to hit the ball out of the park, or bunt for a hit.

Our fans can be so stupid.

Most of the fly balls were the product of a pitcher throwing up in the zone. They simply weren't disciplined enough at the plate. I don't think for one moment our players walked up to the plate thinking HR. They haven't done it all year and they know hitting HRs in that ballpark is even less likely.

Hell, even Stevenson took one of those high balls pretty deep. Do you really think he was swinging for the fence? He's happy to just make contact.

That is exactly what I said. I said he should have just eaten the ball and not bothered throwing it.

So you are happy with our approach last night?....If you are coaching them up you tell them not to change a thing?

I seriously think this is what a lot of the idiots on here think. Its funny how many retard fans come out of the woodwork to try and talk baseball after the team "looses" a game.

Breg makes his errors late in tight games. As good as he is,he is still a freshman. He often fields balls to the side of him rather than get in front where he can block the ball with his chest and keep the runner on second from scoring.

As I have already told you once in another thread, laying off of those high pitches is difficult for a hitter. They practiced with a pitching machine throwing up at the letters to them, and still couldn't get on top of the baseball. It happens. Kid is a good pitcher. Was drafted in the 11th round. There are times we could have been a little more disciplined, but you along with a few others, who have no idea what they are talking about, are spewing in every thread how the hitters were just up there swinging for the fences which is just dumb.

Swinging at pitches you should lay off of and swinging for the fences is NOT the same thing.

There's a lot of what ifs and reasons/excuses to go around. It's never just one thing.

LSU always goes into the CWS with the added pressue of fan/program expectations, the likes of which none of the other programs really have. I doubt there are many people wanting to jump off a building in Corvallis, Louisville and Chapel Hill this morning like there are here. Sometimes that added weight forces guys to try to be perfect in an imperfect game.

UCLA's style of play translates to any ballpark, anytime. The conditions, demensions of the field, etc don't really matter. Not so with LSU. In 95% of college ballparks that's a 5-2, 6-2 game last night. Ibarra crused two that should have been HR's and Steveson hit another. It's just difficult to change the formula that has been so successful all year long right at the end of the season.

Nominee for the Brooks Wallace Award - Best shortstop in the country.

First-team All-SEC.

National Freshman of the Year by both the NCBWA and Baseball America.

Leads LSU in runs (59), doubles (18), triples (7) and steals (16), to go along with 6 home runs and 52 RBIs.

Maybe if you'd have been watching him all year long you'd see how dumb that comment was. He's made amazing plays all year long.
