He knows how to evaluate character. That’s subtle but pretty huge.

Character plays a bigger role than most think. High character kids are gonna do the right thing off the field and most likely put in the true work it takes to be successful. Also a bunch of high character kids can easily contribute to great team chemistry and people accepting their roles and putting We before Me

Arizona had not made the postseason in 3 seasons when Jay took over and 4 out of the last 7, not sure If you can call that solid especially for a program that’s a borderline blueblood.

With no intent to disparage Jay, his record of reaching the CWS is actually worse than LSU’s over the past 40 seasons (50% for LSU). This stat is still insane to me.
