You sure about that? I thought he came in as a scholarship WR and converted to Safety under Saban?

Let's not forget about Greg Jackson, Chris Carrier and my childhood hero, Steve Rehage.

Solid players but I don't think they belong in a discussion of the all-time best safety's.

Some may have forgotten than Carrier was the long snapper on punts. Used to love watching him go down field and hammer returners on punts.

You laugh, but Saban's defense didn't "Gel" until he moved Devery, I mean Jack, from WR to safety. He was the starting free safety when we won the 2003 NC.

Was Rehage a safety?
Yes. #7. The Battering Ram. One of the better safeties in LSU history.

Yes Hunt and Webster started as WRs before moving to the defense in 2002. I think that was the same season when Damien James left the team and a couple of LB's got arrested in summer.

If not Tommy Casanova then I would go with Johnny Robinson for old timers.

Thanks for the video! I was a high school junior watching the game on ABC Saturday night football with Chris Schenkle calling the plays. We were all going crazy! Small victory for losing to Archie in 1968 and 1969, though. Those were the only 2 years that Mac beat the Bear. We could have won the SEC and maybe more.

I'm sure you watched this game as well:

The huskers barely pulled off that victory.

That 1970 LSU team was underrated. They lost 3 games but they were much better than their record indicated. I didn't understand the opening loss to A&M, but their other two losses were very close to very good teams (0-3 to #2 ND, and 12-17 to #1 Neb)

msbargas,

Ole Miss vs. LSU

Wow! Finally got to see Art Cantrelle! And Casanova did fly down that field. Nice pick.

Yes, I did watch it. And the loss to ND was a crime--WE WUZ ROBBED! A bad call went against us that allowed the ND field goal. However, we exacted revenge the next year as Andy Hamilton made Tom Gatewood look like Tom Driftwood! He didn't know which way Hamilton was going on every play. Bert Jones had a field day throwing touchdowns to his first cousin. I was there for the game and thoroughly enjoyed the 28-8 Irish stew!

Hunt wasn't the most gifted, but you could sure tell when he wasn't on the field.

That was all-american Clarence Ellis of Notre Dame that got beat badly by Andy Hamilton. TC37 intercepted a pass intended for all american Tom Gatewood. It was the equivalent of a PP7 Julio Jones matchup.
