I think the class fills needs and we got much bigger which is what he said he needed. Both sides of the ball are improved. Go ahead and wish he fails.t

I mean, that really isn't a bad quote. You do not want your head coach to make decisions based on any third-party recruiting rankings.

The problem isn't even with O's "rankings" (though I certainly wouldn't be shocked if his personal evaluation skills are not that truly top tier), the problem is that he's lying and there are players that were higher in "his" rankings too but he could not get them.

If my head coach actually thinks, after scouting, that a consensus 3-star is better than a consensus 5-star, then that is ok. But its not like that's what we are talking about here.

Oh, he is making himself accountable and it will almost entirely be his doing when this ship runs fully aground.

It's not the worst answer in the world.
If you absolutely knew who the best players were regardless of their ranking on signing day and you got them your team would always be ranked outside of the top 10.

The problem is if O could see the future and tell how the recruits would turn out.. He probably would've used that ability against Notre Dame and gone for the touchdown.

yea that's fine, but you whiffed on a bunch of players that you obviously evaluated and wanted since you gave them scholarships and sent 5 coaches to their homes

Evaluation isnt the issue, if that was the issue we'd be talking about the 3 star cornerbacks in this class and if they're good enough

the issue is that we have NO cornerbacks in this class because you missed on the ones that you DID want

To say that you don't trust anyone's ranking but your own is ignorant though.

Something like "I take a lot of perspectives, evaluations into consideration when evaluating a player but my own judgements figure most prominently into my decision making" makes much more sense. Why wouldn't you welcome as much sound information as possible?

That's the way he'll react everytime under pressure. He's just too ignorant to realize that he is proving the majority correct.

So you trust Ed Orgeron has the capacity to make decisions that are against/contrary to consensus rankings because he is coaching on such a high level? I sure don't.

My point is that I want LSU's head coach, whoever it may be, to trust his own judgement over the ranking sites.

I even said that I certainly wouldn't be shocked if his personal evaluation skills are not that good, but if, and sadly this is a bigger if than I would like, IF LSU ever does have a good head football coach again, I would have no problem with that coach saying, "I trust my rankings, I chose this class. I trust my ability to evaluate and develop better than anyone else. I'm not going to trust any one else's evaluation."

All I'm saying is that it is a reasonable statement for a head coach to make.

The problem here isn't that Ed Orgeron is bad at talent evaluation, its that he is full of shite in implying that he had the guys on this team ranked higher than the players we missed out on. There is no point in debating "his rankings" relative to consensus rankings because the class doesn't reflect "his rankings", this class reflects the only kids he was able to recruit to LSU this year.

Sure there is. He also said that LSU would compete for championships and that he would hire the best coordinators and not meddle. His supporters will always move the goal posts and make excuses for him to justify not fulfilling his promises.

Do you guys actually think a HC of a mojor program should do otherwise? "We'll see" is about all you can sat at this time.

LSU isn’t a major program and hasn’t been for a long time now.
