Good player but nothing screams Hall of Fame, especially since he didn't age well. Had he continued on the pace of his first 4 seasons then maybe.

Mitchell & Jones were the only people in college history to have a BCS and CWS titles when they beat Texas. Dont know if that still stands.
Pretty sure it still stands.
For the OP's questions, I'll vote Chad Jones (since Cannon was before my time). Chad was such a natural athlete.

At the time of his retirement, he was 3rd in career homers, 7th in slugging, and 10th in fielding among all time NL shortstops. Three time NL All-Star, and two time World Champion. More than 2,000 career hits. In 1969 he was voted the Giants' all-time best shortstop. What may have kept him from the Hall was the time lost to military service in WWII. Didn't age well? He hit .295 in his last 50 games. Ever hit a major league curveball? I have, and it ain't easy.

This isn't right. Per Wikipedia, it was over 400 in 1953. My dad played football at USL from 58-62 and benched 400 lbs (he told me Red Lerille put 400 on the bar and told him it was 390 to trick him)
You are likely correct; it could be my source should have been kilograms or it could just be my source is wrong; NO Times Picayune:

By the time Cannon was a sophomore at LSU, he measured 6-foot-1 and weighed 200 pounds. He could run a 9.4 100-yard dash, throw a 16-pound college shot put almost 55 feet and bench-press 270 pounds, which at the time was just 10 pounds off the Olympic record.
My guess would be this is significantly understated or misunderstood by the sports writer.

Alvin Dark, lettered in baseball, football, and basketball at LSU drafted by the NFL and played 14 years in MLB.

Likely so. This was not at all downplaying your post. I happen to agree with you on Cannon. My Dad competed against him in track and said he was the best athlete he ever saw.

I don't think it was kg because that would be 595 lbs.

Joe Bill Alcock - all-sec basketball, baseball (major league all-star)
George Atiyeh - all-sec football, sec wrestler of the year (heavyweight champion)
Alex Box - football, baseball

Great story about Miley - he was my uncle but passed away before I was born - my whole life i stared at his trophies but hearing stories about him playing is what makes him come to life - it was 41 years on January 6th he passed away - always wondered if he was still alive today what he would have accomplished

One of the best Tigers ever! Great to see him at the PMAC recently.

Don't know that he's the GOAT two sport athlete for the Tigers, but Lynn Amedee should be mentioned. QB on a couple of excellent Tiger FB teams in the early 60s and a excellent pitcher on the Tiger's 1961 SEC championship baseball team (he pitched 11 innings in the final game against Auburn to win the title).

Great thread, loving all the contributions.
Joe Adcock is an almost unknown in our day and time.
Now, I'm only being a git by correcting majoredinwhitehorse' s spelling of his name.
I didn't know about him until he showed up in an arcade baseball video game in the middle 1980s and, at that time, I fancied myself an authority on baseball and had never heard of him until I was 20.

I didn't know Mike personally but I saw him play both football and baseball many times as a student at LSU. He was actually drafted by in the first round by the Reds coming out of high school and then again in the first round as the 10th overall pick by the Angels three years later. An great all-sport athlete who high jumped 6'4" for the EJ track team in high school. LSU was really at a loss for a quarterback who could run the veer offense when he decided to sign with the Angels and forego his senior season.

Billy Cannon
100 dash won SEC.
football all pro in AFL as halfback. big role with Raiders as TE in his later years.
Mythical national champion of college. undefeated. got by Clem in the Sugar.
I realize that track is "cheating" this question.
If track doesnt count,
I would go with the lefty pitcher who tore up his lower extremity in a car incident before he got to play a down in the NFL. He played on two natty's two sports with a big role in football and pitched in relief in the CWS.

chad jones and it's not even close.
had Corey Webster, Michael Clayton, Marcus Spears, and Early Doucet chosen to play basketball this convo would be much more interesting.
