If the batter steps out the batter’s box during the pitch and the pitcher delivers the pitch, a strike is called on the batter. If there is a runner on base, and the batter leaves the batter’s box with both feet during the pitch and the pitcher delivers the pitch, two strikes are called on the batter. If the pitcher doesn’t deliver the pitch there is no penalty for the batter or pitcher
Batter steps out of the box during the pitch

THAT is technically the rule that should have been applied. The umpire was obviously ONLY looking for a way to screw LSU because the batter was out of the box during the pitch.

Such bullshite.

This is what I have been pointing out. The batter gave himself up.

How do they call a balk 5 minutes after a play ? Was it called at the time?

A lot went wrong on that call there, they will never admit that they were wrong.

Catchers Interference I have never seen called unless they are blocking the plate on a runner trying to score without the ball OR if a batter swings and knicks or hits any part of the catcher.

This didn't happen because the batter backed out of the box.

South Carolina Hitter's fault not LSU's. Yes, if he would of stayed in the box and swung catchers interference shoulda been called, but that was not the case here.

Also, on top of all this, the runner never touched home plate. I have never seen a run count whenever a player does not touch the plate.

It wasn’t a balk. They called catcher interference.

But it does.

Something needs to be done to stop the incredibly poor, bordering on corrupt, umpiring in this conference.

Just letting shite like this go because it turned out good for us is how we end up in this type of situation.

This is the thing nobody seems to even be discussing! He never touched home plate!! Epic fail on the part of this officiating crew!

that specific call is a balk (all runners advance one base) AND catcher’s interference (batter is awarded first base)

Plate Ump gets no help. He can’t see it all. He has a runner coming.

He got the crew together and gets crickets…blank stares.

We would run a film clip, then argue for hours about what we had just seen. Both Baseball and Football. I umped and coached starting at 16 and finally hung the cleats up at 70. You never see it all.

The head SEC official discussed it during the game. Didn’t have to touch home. He was called out then that was reversed with catcher interference.

And then they denied the appeal. Which means they’re claiming for the record he did.

They called both just to cover their bases.

I agree. I guess he legally could have squared Neal up in the back of the head, though

They asked the slimey head off umpires about this and he blabbered some bs about a balk was called as a result of the interference ruling so something something bullshite. Sounded fishy and not something from the rulebook.

But I completely agree that you must touch home plate in order to score a run in baseball. I would love to see the rule book on what the slimey head of umpires used as an excuse.
