Basketball Coach McMahan deserves as much patience and respect as you gave Kelly

Fans were willing to wait until year three to judge Kelly. McMahan deserves similar consideration. LSU’s football season was very much a roller coaster ride and Kelly noted it would be although he won the West. McMahan appears more hindered than Kelly was because of being penalized by the NCCA. I think we can all agree that McMahan certainly has shown the ability to coach well, now it’s just showing patience to see if LSU’s basketball coach can build a 4 and 5 star roster similar to Kelly.

He has it from me. If I’m year three we are struggling then I’ll be concerned.

LSU basketball was penalized by the NCAA? I didn’t see that happen. The only penalty was self imposed by Woody to get his guy in the seat and keep his father in law happy.

It may not be MM fault but Woody killed the program not the NCAA.

Any person that uses this year to make a determination on what McMahon will do in the future just needs to be ignored.

He very well may not work out but this season should not be held against him. If you don’t see some improvement over the next year both on the floor and in recruiting then it’s a totally different story.

I like McMahon and am not writing him off as a coach that can have success at LSU, but comparing him to Kelly as far as fan confidence goes is kinda weird

Kelly won a million games at Notre Dame, took Cincinnati to a new year's six game, etc. McMahon doesn't have those type of skins on the wall. He has more to prove than Kelly.

The sec alters on this board don’t have to listen to you.

The sec alters on this board were wanting to fire Kelly after week one.

Isn’t the football team being investigated as well?

By the way, we are not playing up to the potential of the talent we currently have. This is a BS excuse. If we played teams with far superior talent, that is one thing. Neither A&M nor Florida have superior talent and we couldn’t break 60.

I’ve heard the Woodward bootlickers talk about how far superior of an X and O’s coach MM is over Wade, yet we are underachieving with the talent we currently have. The only consistent improvement I see is on OOB plays. Otherwise, this team is a regression from last year and the last 5 years.

A lot of fans didn't have the "emotional intelligence" to admit how badly LSU played against their weak non-conference schedule, and bashed any dissenting opinions, as usual. I don't keep tabs on specific names of posters who were saying these things, as the list would be very long, but I suspect a lot of these threads now popping up and saying "what did you expect from this roster?" are the same ones who were insisting that anyone who doubted the team a week and a half ago was not a fan, didn't know basketball, or was just an idiot. Zero self awareness.

I agree with the sentiment of your post, but you can't possibly believe our fans would have given BK until year 3 if he wasn't winning. I saw a lot of people say year 2 is the year to judge, but many of those same fans were judging harshly after game 1.

We will know a lot more based on the trajectory of the team after we finally get the final penalty letter from the NCAA. Until then he is going to be limited in recruiting high school and the portal.

MM has three years to get to the tourny. He hasn’t been penalized by the ncaa yet.

You are not wrong.

We are currently ranked 49 in '23 recruiting. CMM is going to have to coble together a few players from the transfer portal for the '23-'24 season. I don't believe we will get a high ranking class until '24 when the cloud of the NCAA has evaporated. So my expectations for men's basketball will probably remain low until the '24-25 season.

This is overstated u less schollies are taken it’s a nothing burger. Plenty of teams have been built and dominated while under ncaa penalty: urban at TOSU ran a train on teams while his wasn’t eligible for shite, he managed to recruit and dominate.

In todays world of the portal, games all on tv and such unless you strip scholarships it’s nothing.

MM has until year 3 to get results.

Yes. And his greatest skill is player development. I think we will see nice improvement in Fountain and one of the freshman next year. Perhaps even JWill and Mwani.

A 43rd ranked recruiting class even developed isn’t going to win you the sec. Pearl,Cal, Muss and Oats all recruit too well for us to take a mid major route and develop 3 stars into players.

MM gets a pass for the first two years here but he will need some top 15 type classes to win.
