Orgeron can help by not beinrg a pussy. Go for it when its 4th and inches past midfield.

Why do we throw the players under the bus for O?

Saying players didn’t execute isn’t throwing them under the bus or defending Orgeron. There is a loser and winner in every game. That doesn’t necessarily mean one coach ran circles around the other which is what the rant says after every loss. Had we gotten smoked, then sure you can have that discussion, but that simply didn’t happen.

Outcoached – I’d say yes. Mullen coached around a questionable QB (Franks) and found/exploited an LSU weakness (option play). Grantham was successful blitzing and was able to essentially shorten the field (playing the run and short pass aggressively) against LSU’s offense.
However even with being somewhat outcoached (also poor blocking and poor tackling), the team still had a chance to win the game (2.5minutes remaining, down by 1, with one timeout, and needing 53 yrds to get into field goal range).

Coaching mismanagement - This was a significant factor in the loss to Florida. The failure to perform a basic coaching function (calling a timeout and challenging a bad spot in the red zone at end of half) which had the potential to affect the score by 4 to 11 points.
The coaching staff’s purpose is to provide the players with as many opportunities to win as possible. They failed. Even if you lose the overturn opportunity, you’ve done your best to maximize your scoring potential and minimize your opponent’s scoring potential. If you win the challenge, you can do two things 1.) possibly add more points and 2.) eat up clock to prevent the Florida score before halftime.
I think it’s a testament to the team (both coaches and players) that they were still in the game. However, in close games, the coaching staff cannot afford to cripple their own team and leave potential opportunities on the table.

The question from the fanbase now becomes, what other basic functions (critical play review for potential challenges) are not being properly managed and will it reveal itself in another close game.

Because whiffed tackles, dropped passes, shitty pass protection is all on Coach O, right?

Tell us who is responsible for getting players ready to tackle, catch, pass protect, and who gets millions to have a team ready?

This all day. In the five wins we made the plays to win when we needed to. In the UF game we had the plays to win but did not execute them.

Orgeron addressed this that he got no word from the pressbox to challenge the spot. He cannot see what we see at home on TV. Somebody did not do their job and he gets credit for that just like he gets credit for good plays. But dont blame it on stupidity.

Do you mean like fumbling the ball away in the redzone or throwing a pick 6 with the game on the line? I think Joe B is a really good QB and is the right guy back there but those two TO's were more critical than the coaching decisions

Face it. We fricked up...

At some point the players have to go out and execute.

I think LSU'S biggest problem is depth and I'm not optimistic that they'll be competitive with bama. I'm hoping home field helps with Georgia. I feel better about the rest of the schedule. aTm may be tougher than most think.

No, I don’t mean player mistakes. I’m specifically calling out the coaching error at the end of the first half which had just as much of an impact as Joe B’s mistakes. Actually, Joe B wouldn’t have been in such a tight situation (end of game) if the coaching error hadn’t occurred. Players errors will occur for remainder of the season (turnovers, poor execution). The coaching staff should not be adding to those errors with basic coaching “challenging a bad spot” mistakes.

As for Coach O addressing the situation. He really didn’t address it. He just explained what happened. He never explained how they were going to address this issue in the future. He will continue to have an obstructed view in that situation (although the players were indicating first down). I was a bit surprised at his lack of situational awareness during that play. His players were indicating first down yet he didn’t ask about the spot to his booth. That was pretty weak as was his explanation. I was screaming for a timeout, the commentators were thinking he had the first down. The only ones confused were the LSU coaching staff.

What are the guys in the booth going to do next time?

Not even close. This will be a hindrance until there are...changes.
