Summer ball assignments

With LSU's time at the CWS over a week ago, most of the Tigers have scattered around the country for summer baseball.

Weekend starters Alex Lange and Jared Poche were not assigned to a summer team and are likely to take the entire summer off.

Here is a list of where LSU is playing, with the heaviest concentration in the Cape Cod League and North Woods League.

Cape Cod League

Yarmouth-Dennis Red Sox -- Mike Papierski,

Wareham Gatemen -- Kramer Robertson

Bourne Braves -- Doug Norman, Russell Reynolds

Chatham Anglers -- Jake Fraley, Jake Godfrey

Harwich Mariners -- Danny Zardon, Hunter Newman

North Woods League

Lakeshore Chinooks -- Greg Deichmann, Hunter Devall

Wisconsin Rapids Rafters -- Beau Jordan, Bryce Jordan

St. Cloud Rox -- Collin Strall

Battle Creek Bombers -- Alden Cartwright

Kalamazoo Growlers -- Ryan May

Perfect Game League

Amsterdam Mohawks -- Austin Bain, Grayson Byrd

Alaska League

Anchorage Glacier Pilots -- Parker Bugg, Jesse Stallings

Texas Collegiate League

Acadiana Cane Cutters -- Troy Whitty

Troy Whitty

Was he a 2014 (Season) recruit and hasn't played the last 2 seasons?

Ben McDonald pitched there I believe. I think Todd Walker may have played there. I think this was before some of the other leagues really rose to prominence and they were just sending guys all over to get innings and ABs, not to be scouted by MLB.

Lange (114 inn) and Poche (109 inn) have nothing to gain by throwing more this summer.

FWIW Chinooks team site has Deich listed as IF so the rumored move to OF may be BS. Batting .223 so far.

I always wonder if these teams actually have fans, or if they are just there for the sole purpose of giving college athletes more practice and reps during the summer.

Yeah Deichmann has struggled a lot in summer ball but is hitting better over the last week or so. He was below the mendoza line for quite some time.

He has an absurd amount of strikeouts though, he has struck out at least once in 20 out of 25 games played including one game where he went 0 for 7 with 5 K's. He has 29 K's in 94 AB. His OBP is only .283 currently.

I penciled him in as my 2B starter but I'm starting to think Byrd starts there, Dawson at SS and Lochridge at 3B.

I'm actually going to be on the Cape this summer for a couple of days and plan to catch a game. I hear they are a slice of old Americana and fun to watch.

Deichmann has 29 Ks in 94 ABs = 31% K rate.

Yikes.

He's not hitting for power or average.

Hope he turns it around.

Yep he only has 3 doubles, 0 triples and 0 home runs in those 94 AB

Really really frightening. Was supposed to be big time too.

He had knee surgery one year and then arm surgery last year. A big kid (6'5" 230 lbs) who had a lot of promise.

CPM in 2013

"Troy is the kind of guy that could end up looking like former great Anthony Ranaudo by the time he's finished at LSU."

He could work on throwing the ball to first base.

ETA: Not saying it should be in summer ball. But come fall, he needs to work on PFP's and pickoffs to 1st base. Even his pickoff throws are lollipops.

How is this determined? Do the players get to choose where they want to play or is this a coaching staff decision?

He's still striking out once a game. However, all of the walks he's taken this year have come in the last 10 games or so. That's also coincided with him raising his average about 30 points over that same span. He's also stolen 8 bases so far. The OBP has risen about 50 points in the last 10 or so games as well.

Basically his start was awful, but he's getting it going now. Both getting more hits and taking more walks, which tells me his approach is getting better. He's been hitting leadoff too, so his RBI numbers won't really be big anyway.
