Beck was efficient. He faced only three batters and gave up one hard hit ball, a Garza fly out to right field.

Gilbert has only pitched to four batters so far this spring. His velo was in the low 80's and his control was not sharp. He needs more innings to regain his edge, IMO.

“Ok Danny. I need a no BS assessment.”

What are your thoughts on the year?

This year's team has the most talented depth of any recent tiger teams. I think they should be able to win 50 games this season and make a good run in Omaha with the required good luck it takes to do that. The only potential pitfalls I see are having only 4 outfielders ready to play and 1 serviceable catcher to start the season. These guys must remain healthy for LSU to be successful this year. We have the luxury this year of talented players in reserve that can adequately fill in for the starters at most other positions as well as provide quality at bats off the bench. The pitching staff is relatively healthy and is very talented. There is a good mix of experienced veterans and really good newcomers. It will be interesting to see which freshmen make the transition to D1 baseball most successfully. I haven't been this optimistic in many years.

It looks like this year's "ball magnet" is Drew Bianco. Poor guy got hit by a pitch again! Assuming the role of the Jordan brothers.

It’s nice seeing 8 of the 9 pitchers who threw, throwing 90+

Hess, Marceaux, Walker

His role right now is being healthy enough to pitch all season.

It really is. I remember about 10 years ago looking at other teams with envy (Florida, Vandy) and all the power arms they had on their pitching staffs. Mainieri has done a job at recruiting and filling his pitching staffs with many guys who can consistently pitch in the 90s.

Any player that injures Mathis should have to run until they puke.

He should be treated like a QB. NO ONE TOUCH HIM.

Credit should go to Nolan Cain for this year's class. I was told by a scout that he worked his butt off to get these kids to LSU and has established good relationships with coaches and scouts throughout the country. I was skeptical of him being up to the task when he got promoted but, this years class has me convinced he is a good recruiter.

I was as well.

He does a great job managing relationships with players, families, Coaches (HS and Summer), scouts, and agents. With that many sources of information you can get a better handle on what a kid is thinking relative to the draft. I think it's one of the reasons we've fared better in the draft the last few years.
