People need to understand Paul is here to pitch first and foremost

Yeah, I added to my comment, but will repeat it here:

If we have to rely on Skenes as a DH, it means something has gone wrong.

Every single time LSU doesn't score 10 there will be 20 threads asking why Skenes isn't DHing. He's a rant baseball god.

And every time Thompson makes one tiny mistake there will be 20 threads asking why he's playing. He is the rants whipping boy.

That's how the entire season will be.

Skenes as a two way player is a novelty. Yes, he's really good at hitting and at pitching, but you know what's cooler than a pitcher that can hit? A pitcher that stays healthy because he's not getting hit by pitches or diving back to first base on pick off attempts.

If he proves to be a true Friday night SEC pitcher, then I would be perfectly fine with him getting very very limited at bats (as few as zero).

First, having an ace is way more important than a DH.

Second, this team does not have a shortage of players who can produce in the DH spot.

Skenes is a rant unicorn though. They will want to see him all day, every day. Bain was a rant star, and Skenes is Bain on steroids.

He's also going to see a massive step up in pitchers than he is used to facing. I know he can hit, but I worry if he would struggle a bit to get in any type of rhythm at the plate in limited attempts.

Could Skenes be a good PH option late in close ball games?

Of course he could be.

You forgot about Skenes. He has a ton of pop on his bat.

I think he’ll DH some but I feel like they are moving away from it being an every day thing. He hasn’t hit in any of the past 12 scrimmages, exhibition games, or P&G World Series. Dating back to November 6th.

I think they really like Jones & Joubert. And I think you could make daily lineup moves to where guys like Dugas, Pearson & Tanks take nights off from playing the field. And you have a guy like Beloso who factor in, for example

You ain't lying.

I just hope that Skenes realizes that his real money at the MLB level lays in pitching....I hope he doesn't get caught up in the fact that he may not get as many ABs as maybe he expected this year with LSU.

I'd be willing to bet that this was made crystal clear to him upon coming, and he probably willingly signed up for it.

Every interview I've seen with him basically inferred that he wanted to come here and get developed as a pitcher and hitting was basically lagniappe.

Quite an impressive one inning for Bronzini
4 hits, 2 walks and 3 HBP. I'm pretty sure many of us could do that well. that's pitiful.

Skenes was feast or famine at the plate in the fall. He has tremendous power, but he also hit a lot of check swing dribblers and struck out a lot.

but if you mean overall there's no amount of defense Hal Hughes had to make him a better player than Jordan Thompson because he was entirely hopeless at the plate.

And he wasn't great at defense. Yeah, I forgot about Hal.
