Dylan Thompson is a redshirt freshman. The guy probably weighs 130 lbs and has a hard time hitting 90 MPh. That being said, he was effective in the fall and has been effective in the spring. He seems to produce a lot of weak contact.
You mean we finally have got ourselves a junk ball thrower to piss all over opposing fans by making overanxious hitters look silly? The kind of guy we face in midweek games that causes about as much consternation as anything on this board? Nice

2023 opening day:
Kling RF
Jobert LF
Crews CF
White 3B
Morgan 1B
Jones DH
Neal C
Thompson SS
Nippolt 2B
As stacked as that team was you forget how 2b was kind of up in the air all year.

Pearson 2B
Forgot about the Pearson at 2b experiment.

the bullpen last year, outside of Herring, was awful.
Hellmers had a great finale but wasn't really put in any other pressure spots.
Primeaux has potential but see above.
Anderson I get counting as a starter.
Coleman was the same guy he was all 4 years at LSU.
Moffett didn't live up to the potential. Still can, but shame it didn't work out here.
Ack went about 2 batters too long every single outing.
Dutton was Dutton,
Loer was a massive disappointment. Stuff was great, too. Even located some great pitches but batters just saw the ball well against him.
Little was Little, but seemed to finally be turning a corner.
Hurd was bad Hurd 90% of the season, but he did show up in Chapel Hill.
Johnson was awful in his limited work. If he ever gets under control he'll be great.

Cowan is our "junk ball" guy and he throws 94. Profiles as a better Eric Walker.

The bullpen on paper heading into last year was thought to be excellent

PP7 gets a lot right. Thanks.
Agree 100 percent on moffet . Little was really good late. Johnson just got impatient

I think eventually Stanfield may be better suited lower in the lineup
I have been toying with the idea of Stanfield batting 9th.
1. Curiel
2. Milam
3. Jones
4. Brown
5. Dickinson
6. Larson
7. Braswell
8. Hernandez
9. Stanfield
It puts three righties in a row, which isn't ideal but there are things I like about it.

I noticed Koki Riley of the advocate had Stanfield batting 9th as well. He also had Josh Pearson as the DH. Lester Earl had the same.
I could see that happening. He is a senior and has batted well this spring.

Ulloa pitched in 5 SEC games (16%). And while effective, was not much of a factor. I think he quietly had some injury issues.
Guidry threw 9IP, walked 10 batters, and had 4 wild pitches in SEC games.
Herring was the only dude. There were some good spot performances here and there, but nothing ever was consistent past Herring.

I don’t think that’s crazy but i also don’t agree. Stuff-wise(mainly velo) was similar, but I think this staff has better pitchers.
Having a 3rd starter is going to work wonders for the bullpen usage. I think Herring was forced into too many desperate situations last year, and while everyone wants to find the “next Herring”, I don’t. I prefer the modern model of bullpen usage and I think lsu has the starters & the arms to pull that off
So if you told me all LSU has to do is find 3-4 consistent bullpen arms (vs 1 last year), I think they have the guys to do that. Then you ride some of the other guys situationally.

Adam, why no mention of Devin Sheerin in the bullpen?

6 of the 10 scrimmages Stanfield has led off and 7 of 10 Curiel was in the 2 hole with 4 of the last 5 scrimmages having Stanfield then Curiel. Apparently Jay sees something with that being the 1 and 2 in the lineup. 8 of the 10 scrimmages Jones was in the 3 hole. 4 hole has been much more of a shake up to see who can protect Jones.
My guess based on scrimmages and a little of my opinion would be:
1. Stanfield - CF
2. Curiel - LF
3. Jones - 1B
4. Brown - RF
5. Dickinson - 2B
6. Milam - SS
7. Hernandez - C
8. Pearson/Larson - DH
9. Braswell - 3B

Torn ACL and out for the year.

6. Milam - SS

I only went to one scrimmage, but Curiel did nothing but shoot line drives into center field. If you get Stanfield on base in the leadoff spot, it almost feels like a foregone conclusion he'll be on third by the time the 3 hole comes up. That could mean two steals, it could mean a hit and run, it could mean a steal and a do your job ground out by Curiel.
Regardless, I think Jay has a lot of trust in those two to manufacture runs and base runners for the power bats in the lineup.

That prediction is strictly based on opening night.
I think it is very possible for Milam to hit in the 2 hole with Curiel leading off if Stanfield struggles or even Milam hitting 4th behind Jones if Brown struggles and Milam is hot.
Milam is one of those guys you can see used in many different spots in the lineup.

I was sarcastically mocking that douchebag who made the "we don't have any stars" thread a few months ago. He argued that because Milam didn't hit in the top 3rd of the order every night, he could not be classified as a star.

I forgot about that guy. Hopefully someone bookmarked it.
I saw on Twitter that Jay confirmed Milam will start at Shortstop, maybe in an interview with Mike Scarborough.

I completely forgot that classified Jones as a star when he thought he was leaving and then when he announced he was returning he classified him as "an above average SEC 3-4 hole hitter."
Earlier in the thread he said he didn't care about a player's professional status or draft status and then when he came back, he said this
quote:
If he was a baller he would’ve been drafted.
MLB just validated me essentially by saying you’re not ready, try again another year in college
