No different than projected vs actual with the MLB scale

I think Fan Graphs and now espn since Kiley went there do the best with the now vs projected ratings. Gives a lot of great context for guys in the lower minors and pre draft to show what scouts think they can be vs what they are now.

Not every publication does the future value stuff.

Never would have felt like he had to dive had he taken the correct line to start with. Also could have caught it had he just kept running and stuck his glove out. He jumps up more than out.

While Crews’ 70-grade hit tool (signifying plus-plus) is his best attribute, the outfielder grades out as above average across the board. MLB Pipeline gave his power and speed a 60-grade and his arm and defense a 55-grade on the 20-80 scouting scale.

And this was Adam’s final ratings:

quote:
Dylan Crews
Power------80
Hitting------75
Speed------65
Fielding----75
Arm---------80

He nearly got it backwards…

You're picking nits. Let's say we just tack on ten points to adjust to the MLB/NCAA scale. That gives you:

Power------70
Hitting------80
Speed------70
Fielding----65
Arm---------65

Adam was within 5 or 10 of paid professionals who do it for a living, save for the arm. And he's doing it for free to get the casuals like me up to speed, so whatever.

Anyone would have been that close with Dylan considering his well-known 5-tool rating. Or do you think there are people who would give him less than a 55in anything since that’s what it would have taken to be more than 10 away? But I digress. Fun thread.

I love the write ups, but zero chance Pearson plays corner outfield in the pro’s.

Brady still has back pain. Hopefully he gets better this year.

He gave an interview before Friday's scrimmage and said he feels really good. He mentioned a couple times that he feels good and talked about being hurt in the past tense. The only time he didn't acknowledge "feeling good" was that he said he was "really really close to being fully healthy" again.

I don't think that they would be letting him catch or bat as much as they have been lately if he was still setback with the back injury and playing in pain.

This is a good explanation. The ranking is based on his ABILITY to leave the yard… and ability alone. Does this mean he’ll finish the year with 30 bombs… probably not (and I hope I’m wrong on that). But everyone seems to be able to make that distinction except for Ell. Regardless I enjoy the thread every year and agree with Adam’s rankings for the most part.

A) That's not what ell was arguing.

B) Most people aren't trying to make that distinction.

Adam himself said an 80 for power would be Kris Bryant type power.

quote:

Grade Breakdown for Starter
80 Top of the Scale (Think Kris Bryant, USD – 2013 “power”)

So we can expect Jared Jones to put up Kris a Bryant type power numbers this year, right? That was 31 home runs with a wet noodle for a bat. He had more home runs by himself than 223 of 296 division one teams.

Did he say Kris Bryant type power or Kris Bryant type production?
