Depth? Beau Jordan was a starter two years ago and parts of last year. Webre would be serviceable and he's our fifth guy. WTF?

And If Beau is DHing/Cabrera is in the game on the mound and one of Watson or Duplantis god forbid get hurt?

Having both Beau and Webre more than likely platoon DH early on in the year, if one of them has to get pulled from their role specifically to go play defense then the position doesn't have "great depth".

In college baseball players shift around all the time and it will happen this year for LSU. The depth is average at best, having Breaux transfer hurts, if I thought Cabrera wouldn't be pitching then it would be better, Webre has yet to play a game for LSU so it's a body out there but it's a defensive downgrade. For all of these reason's I don't just slap a 75 on the overall grade and tell everyone that LSU is the best, I try to be as neutral and grounded as I can.

You're opinion differs and that's fine. It's a baseball forum.

No coach would have beau at DH with a chance for Cabrera to pitch in that game. What a reach.

You’ve got what is likely the best OF in college with a senior, former starter backing them up only 5 points ahead of a sophomore SS who hasn’t played the position at this level who is backed up by a freshman. GTFO.

And I’m not knocking on Smith. I think he’ll be great. But don’t use this bullshite depth argument. Even you are better than that.

Just so we’re on the same page. You would grade the entire group at a 75?

80. #goatbrera #daddywatson #doitforthecitytoine

Honestly, that’s a loaded question because you have your own made up scale with your own made up categories. So you can BS your way through inconsistencies from position to position and, for those who pay attention, from year to year even for the same returning player.

I just enjoy going overboard with the disagreements. The thread was dead anyway.

Lol what does this mean? How can you hit where it isn't pitched?

Are we playing the "how many useless cliches can you find in one thread" game?

Is that the theme of the thread? I haven't read anything in this thread besides Adam's breakdowns.

If by "thread" you mean "Adam's breakdowns", then yes. If I read one more iteration of "secure the starting spot," I'm kicking a kitten.

Skimmed the thread and can't help but notice how highly critical you are.

I must have missed your pre-season baseball breakdown thread where you do a much better job.

I'm merely executing my yearly purpose in Adam's thread. You're welcome to ignore me as many others do. If I pretended to be a scout, would I seem less critical?

I did it once. Every single player. Started a 100-day countdown thread and on day 36, went through every player in every class with links to their profiles, an off-season story, and my personal opinion on their skills and contributions. It went about 750 pages.

ETA: And I know how much work they are, so I give props to Adam for the time he puts in. But that doesn't make him beyond reproach.

It means you go with the pitch, ex. you don't try and pull an outside pitch--you hit it to the opposite field.

If the pitch is on the outside corner, he goes the other way instead of trying to pull.

If the pitch is on the inside corner he pulls.

This isn’t difficult.

It has to do with bat speed and barrel control. The reason you don't want to pull an outside pitch, is because it forces you to extend your arms which does a multitude of bad things: slows down the swing, affects timing, and relies almost solely on larger muscles to control the barrel. But inside pitches are different. They aren't necessarily always good to pull. Or I should say, depending on your swing and timing, pulling may not be what gets the ball in play and hit hard. You can still get the barrel through quickly and hit it up the middle or even oppo. Beetle Bailey used to demonstrate this often to both LSU players and every kid that went through those Skip camps. I'm rambling a little. Based on Duplantis' spray chart, he spread it out well, especially for a lefty. Shows that he's good with bat control no matter where it's pitched.

Then you put next years starting RF out there, JAKE SLAUGHTER. Yeah, I said it. He's going to play in the outfield next year and he's going to drop bombs like Deichmann did.
