What’s sad is that I used “gall” instead of chutzpah because I was buzzed and figured I had a better chance at spelling it right.

WRONG!

This article about Caleb Gilbert has probably already been linked and discussed but just on the off chance it hasn't, here it is:

Caleb Gilbert never met Wally Pontiff -- but the LSU legend has always inspired him

If anyone who knew Wally, Jr. reads this story and doesn't get a little emotional has something wrong with him.

Yes, it is Josh.

If anyone hasn't read Marx's (the author of the article I linked above) book Walking With Tigers, I recommend it. It's a collection of short stories about LSU athletes and coaches written in the same vein as the Gilbert/Pontiff article in today's Advocate. The stories are NOT what you read about on the Rant.

My kids got me a signed copy of his book for my birthday a couple of years ago.

You can tell why Jeffery Marx won a Pulitzer. He's an artist with the written word. He attends several games each year at the Box usually sitting in the same purple section as Mainieri's family next to the LSU dugout.

Cabrera will be 20 years old for the 2019 draft.

I think you are correct he would have been a draft eligible sophomore.

In case anyone was wondering how Rankin Woley was faring in JUCO, he's crushing the ball. Thru 10 games:

.500/.512/.921 slash, 4 2B, 4 HR, .577 wOBA, .421 ISO, 3 K, 3 BB in 43 plate appearances.

He's played 2nd, 3rd, and short. He had 3 errors in two games at SS, but none anywhere else.

If he could have kept his nose clean...

It’s hard for me not to hold it against you personally when you share things like this.

The stats or the commentary?

ETA: I have stats on Templet, Doolittle, Jonathan Gettys, and Troy Whitty as well. I'm going to track as many former players and commits as I can remember. Along with current commits (Garza, Mathis, and George), and some kids from my high school that are playing around the state.

Whatever happened to Latz?

Is he still in school? Get drafted? When and where?

He transferred to Kent St, was drafted without ever throwing in a game there and signed professionally. This upcoming season will be his first full pro season.

ETA: Meaning his first season in pro after the split college/pro season, not that he will be in full season ball this year.

Not shocked at woley, dude could rake. Would also expect templet to crush it.

Just saw some stats posted on twitter and feduccia was 1 for 4....guess he is back from his injury already?

He batted but he didn’t catch. Coomes and Bryce Jordon caught.

I don't know much about baseball but that was a hell of a post. The more I start to understand baseball, the more i like it. There's just so much more to it than meets the eye.
