It doesnt matter if he throws 90 now. the question scouts ask is "will he throw harder" the answer is yes so this is a non issue
I know other factors are important and I really don't know how hard he throws, but most high school pitchers are drafted with the expectation of their velocity improving and you don't see many in the top two rounds that throw in the high eighties and max out at 90.

You are right, however, his pitchability is off the charts for a kid in high school. Thats the main factor here, not his velocity on may 28, 2009

it's more of a curve ball issue with mitchell. its as if he's never seen a ball curve before every time they throw it to him

I don't think you know what you are talking about.
The kid has major league potential, no doubt. Will a team use a highly compensated early pick to draft him?
I have been told he had higher velocity earlier in his career, so it obviously does matter what he is throwing on May 28, 2009, after being road to four state championships in two different classifications.

I was not aware that his velocity had declined over the years. That does raise an issue.
As far as me not knowing what I'm talking about, I'll go ahead a guarentee that I understand the baseball draft and it's process better then anyone else on the board.

. So, I think that #27 overall is too high for him.
What does everyone else think?
You are probably right but scouts love "5 tool players", which that phrase gets thrown around waaaay to much. "5 tool player" has basically means really good black baseball player nowadays.

The draft is all about potential as opposed to the nba and nfl draft. A lot of these black ball players are coming into the draft very raw in their baseball skills. A lot of them havent had the chance to play select ball their whole life, have private lessons, and in a lot of cases, they have poor high school coaching.
It's easy to call someone who runs well, can throw, and hit a five tool player. It means they have the potential to be that, not neccessarily that they are right now.
A lot of guys with this "potential" strike out in the minors because they cant put it together. It's worth the risk though for scouts and mlb teams.
J Mitch has an unbelievable upside. He could be a bust who never makes it out of low A ball, but he could also be the next Ken Griffey Jr. Because of the latter, he's worth a high pick.

Dean not on list either. Wondering if this list just includes high schoolers and under classmen?

it's a bad statement that goes to a lot of black guys that are fast.

I dont think that's the case either, but he will get drafted very high on the chance that he can be that good.

Jay Bruce is black?

von rosenberg will gain velocity just by not having to play short stop after he pitches. He throws harder when fresh and will gain the velocity rather quickly. Kid has potential as a short stop if pitching doesn't work out also smooth fielding and powerful arm. And he also swung a big bat the last two years. He actually hit .400 as a freshman at barbe.

Now I understand why Dusty doesn't have a problem writing his name in the lineup.
