To be fair every year people are praising a JUCO signee because of something. I'm guessing people were wowed by Hunter's fastball in fall but he just had no composure on the mound when it counted.

only way I would be open to leaving Hess in the pen is if LSU has 3 lock down starters by SEC play and they feel comfortable bringing him into late game situations and closing knowing he'll only be able to go maybe twice a week max.

I was blown up for saying that Hess needed conditioning, and to how well that occurred, would determine his role next season. (Starter or pen)
It was obvious that he was pretty gassed his last inning against OS. Then he got Sunday off and Monday off, and still appeared to be worn out after 25 pitches Tuesday night.
I have absolutely no idea what the program for a pitcher is, or what the bodily limits are to a pitcher. That being said- I think it brings us back to the thought that depending on how this goes for him between now and next march will determine where he fits.

That was really my point... It worked out well with Nick Goody, Will Lamarche, Joe Broussard, but then there is also Brady Domangue, Tyler Jones, Hunter Kiel.

I've heard Cameron Sanders has a very good Fastball around 95MPH, do you think he'd be better as a Starter or in the Pen????

Just having the name Cabrera in a baseball lineup sounds that much more potent.

Cam is throwing 96, he has plus stuff with a very Hess like attitude. He will come right at you.

I agree that he will be best setup for the pen.

Last fall I was impressed with Kiel's velo but, it didn't take long to see that he was a thrower rather than a pitcher. He threw very hard but didn't know where it would end up.

I know it's early but it seems the depth in the bullpen should be better next season

It's worth remembering that this year's team was supposed to have Cartwright and Norman in the bullpen, plus Kiel was supposed to be a factor.

You didn't have any of the three when Mainieri finally set his front line pitching, and then for the stretch run in Omaha you didn't have Walker or Todd Peterson, either.

So they were down five pitchers. Unless they get in a situation where they have to shut a bunch of guys down then yeah, they should really have a lot of depth.

Let's hope they end up hitting on a good number of these freshmen and find some instant contributors, and let's hope guys like Beck, Bush, Frederick and Reese make nice jumps as sophomores.

His speed would give us the fastest outfield ever at LSU.

Didn't Mahtook, Leon Landry, and Jared Mitchell play together one year?

Without examining him, his symptoms sound more like tendonitis which heals with rest and motrin.
