Seeing that an option team put up 21 points on Bama, do you think we should run the option a lot more or stick to our bread and butter power run game?

I'm sure it will be in the playbook, and if it works we'll keep working it - but I'd also imagine the staff will have some alternatives to throw in as well.....

triple option

No.
That would require a good running QB, 3 to 5 good RB's, a great run blocking line, receivers that can downfield block, we can't ... I mean, it just doesn't ...

Wait, what was I saying?

I think we should mix it up more. If we can get some measure of pass protection on PA plays, we should be able to move the ball better than last time. The emergence of Kenny Hilliard as another power back.

Personally, I would script about 20 to 25 "2 minute" drill plays, and have Lee come in and run those 4 or 5 at a time, probably out of the shotgun. JJ starts at the pistol and we run PA, QB draws, options, etc. out of that. Then have JJ under center to run our conventional look when we want to slow things down and kill the clock - but still run some PA and option out of that.

Force Bama to defend the width and depth of the field and every time they adjust shift.

We've got almost 5 weeks, why not?

Miles admitted that he wasn't prepared for our power running game to be marginalized. It took almost a half to find something that was effective.

The learning curve should be much shorter (No Saban joke intended) in the next game. They both know what the other can and can't do well.

It's likely that this game will come down to execution.

Bama will be ready for the option and triple options. The key is better pass protection and utilizations of quick slants......screens won't work against a disciplined Bama defense either.

IF JJ can get more time in the pocket, opportunities will be available on middle routes.

The key to this game (no big surprise) is oline play.

I would like to see some 2-minute uptempo stuff. Just to mix it up. Also, it'll be time for some Boise type plays sprinkled in......if the wills are at a stalemate.

I vote for the old Nebraska triple option outta the I. Stamp's got a certain Mackovicka-ish quality to him.

This could work in so many ways too.

I think that Bama will play to play Bama defense and that is whats going to hurt them. The def coordinator will have to dial up the right packages at the right time. There is no way he plan to stop us we have too many different looks with JJ at the helm. Option, ground and pound. Even the SHort throws to ODB and Shep plus you can go deep middle with Clement and Peterson and Outside with RR2. Way too much to plan. They will have to rely on talent and we match them plus we will be faster.

On the other hand. Our defense will plan around the run and short swing passes etc. The only thing that scares me is that we don't defend the crossing routes well and TE coverage is weak..

he should have been. Tenn had already done it for a half. I think he was not prepared for our passing game to struggle that much (both JJ/JL).

LSU wins by at least 2 scores this time.

Not saying this is the way to go, but how difficult would it be to install the triple option with 5 weeks to go? I only played HS and we ran the power I and never played against a triple option team. My understanding is that it is challenging for the line in terms of blocking scheme but not sure how much. I'd think trying to put it in at this point might overwhelm our guys but idk. Any thoughts?

5 WR set. Make the LBs cover our receivers in man, play a soft zone, or change personnel....
Then, run out of it:
Qb draws, roll-out run pass options, motion Shepard into the backfield.

In all reality, you're probably going to see the same gameplan from last time.
We got to the goal line twice. Ran out of time at half and didn't need to score a TD in OT.
Cut out those two bonehead interceptions. We have alot of room to improve.

Does anybody doubt that Bama will be spending LOTS of time preparing for the option?

Their LBs are going to fat camp for the Christmas holiday so they can get to the edges.

Has Miles called any trick plays all year? I cant remember any. He must have a dozen of them up his sleeve if he needs them.

I think Bama will spend alot of time on it.

But, I'm not sure that they didn't defend it correctly the first time. They might have all known their assignments, done them correctly, but just not had the speed at LB to stop LSU's RB from getting to the edge.

What adjustments can you make for your LBs not having enough speed that won't compromise other areas of your defense?

The real threat for Bama's D is that LSU has equal talent and depth, and Bama can't overcome this defensive flaw with athleticism like they did against GaSouthern.

Short kickoffs vs MissSt & Arky. Wing punt was player call. Jump pass vs UF.

He hasn't really needed to call any this year, but I don't think anyone doubts that he has some extra ones in the "Secret Playbook".

He didn't use any against Bama. Bama tried a few against LSU, and I think that's an indication that the coaches didn't feel they were going to be able to move the ball effectively using a traditional approach.

They've also called fake FGs, flea flickers, etc against other opponenets throughout the year. However, the results of gadget plays in the first game may have an effect on the useage in the second.
