SIAP - Baltimore Sun article confirming the BCS math discussed here.

LINK

Everything I've been seeing locks Bama in, but we know the math provides a decent chance that it's Okie St.

LSU: "Gee, BCS, can we trade in our fantastic year for the consolation prize?"

No. 2 Alabama lost to LSU and did not win the SEC West, yet people are saying the Crimson Tide deserves a free pass into the BCS title game?

That's some system we have here.

That's from the L.A. Times, reprinted by the Baltimore Sun.

The ground swell is starting. Both east and west coast media is starting the campaign. More murmurs are starting here and there. By next weekend Bama will be in the shadows as OSU beats OU. We all know in the media eyes its what have you done lately.
Can you imagine how much fun LSU fans will have in NO the week before the NC game with Bama in town to play Houston for the Sugar Bowl?

I'm certain it'll be bama and I'm fairly confident LSU will beat them on the field turf in the Dome. In fact, that will be the most satisfying victory I can imagine.

But, bama being passed over means Nov. 5th and the most compelling football game I've ever seen remain relevant.

A #2 ranked BCS team has never been jumped in the rankings w/o playing the final weekend. (5 out of 5 teams stayed @ 2, while being idle the final weekend).

Saw this nugget on ESPN bottom line last night. Interesting, the network already lobbying to keep Bama in it.

I think OkieLite will need to make up some room on VaTech/Stanford in the polls this week. & certainly much more next wknd after they beat OU.

People have laughed at me for saying this before...but in the west, there's a HUGE "we're sick of hearing about the SEC" mindset. The absolute LAST thing that they want is an LSU - Bama matchup where another SEC NC is guaranteed.

If I'm Bama, I'm pulling HARD for the Sooners this weekend.

They were 3rd going into the final wknd. USC was 2 & lost to UCLA. Florida jumped from 4 to 2. Michigan stayed @ 3.

FIFY

Add to that thought the payout the SEC will receive with 2 teams in.

Yes, its about the path of least resistance, and Bama is an excellent football team. If they make it they could beat the tigers, and that would REALLY be disappointing because Bama's record would be 12-1 and LSU's record would be 13-1 both with loses to eachother, but LSU would win the SEC championship and Bama would win the BCS championship. It would be convoluted and a disgrace.

Bama is a GREAT team and capable of beating the Tigers, so its not fear, but it is respect and logic. Bama fans are such D bags.

I kind of want a rematch but fact is, if i were not an SEC fan, there would be no way I'd think Bama deserved it. I'd be saying exactly what we said when it was looking like OSU VS MICH.

Nice stat but meaningless.

As to all the Bama love in the sporting press lately, to quote another college football talking head, "Not so [f--king] fast, my friend..."

Per the hard facts as presented by lsumatt, Bama has a strong possibility of ending up #2 in the final poll and going to the BCS CG, BUT it is far from being a done deal. There are still too many people that are ignoring the reality of the computer polls' effect on the final ranking.

If they beat OU, Oklahoma State already has a computer rank that will push them past Bama, especially since Penn State lost yesterday. At that point all OSU needs is just 25% + 1 of the human voters. That's math, not opinion.

If Clemson beats Virginia Tech and Oklahoma State wins convincingly - at home - against an OU team that has big problems in their defensive backfield this year, things will get very dicey for the Tide faithful as this would add more human votes to OSU. Plus, there will be some voters that will vote against an all-SEC rematch.

Remember, OSU doesn't need 50%+ of the human votes, with their computer rank all they would need is 25% + 1 vote.
Math >>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Opinion.

Should be fun.

Does "didn't play the final week" mean they weren't conference champs in a game? Or does it mean they weren't playing week 14 of the season? Lots of reasons a team might not play this coming week if they were in the Pac-10, Big East, or B10 prior to this year....
