Colleges are trying to get in on the ticket money the secondary market is making.

I bought tickets in the secondary market outside of the stadium for countless games, and have never payed more than face value, many of them being good seats at big games. If you are buying tickets at higher than face value, you are getting duped, no offense.

The whole buying tickets at higher than face value on eBay thing is nothing but hype. It’s a shame that people fall for it.

Not for the really big games you haven’t.

Everyone prices the same way we do now. The premier games are the most expensive of the season. Despite last year, we are still a premier game to everyone on our schedule

The arms race in college football is just silly.

No. They're trying to make up for the fact they lost MILLIONS of dollars last year during covid. Even HS tickets are double the price now due to lost revenue.

Not just China virus. They have run off thousands of loyal, donating fans with their political stunts since the 2019 season.

Part of the problem is we had a year off for Covid. I get that some stadiums allowed a decent chunk of fans, but the majority that filled stadiums stayed home. That was money saved. Throw in some stimmy checks, and people can pay these higher prices now.

I’ve found recently that the number of big games seems to have dwindled. As the lack of parity is further exposed, you’ll see that getting a ticket for Moo State or Arkansas isn’t the toughest get. Our prices in 2019 went up on the secondary market because everyone wanted to see the GOAT.

I think this will level out, but maybe not until next year. These stadiums became too big, and there’s tickets to be had on game days. It’s happened at LSU, Bama, etc. If you are patient on the secondary markets, you can get reasonable rates for games outside of Bama or Georgia or whoever.

Ole Miss was $20 face value in 1998.

And it was on the sideline.

I think Notre Dame was $60 that year.

Most programs are going to a differential pricing model with 1-2 "marquee" or "premium" games each year where the prices are jacked up. For example, at OSU, face value for a normal nonconference game is ~$50. For OU a few years back it was nearly $200. Makes sense that one of Bama's top home games is LSU.

I used to rely on buying outside the stadium until one year at Georgia there was NO availability. We were lucky enough to get in by bribing a gate keeper, but now I ALWAYS travel with tickets in hand.

With electronic/phone tickets only...scrounging around stadiums for cheap game day tickets, has become much more difficult. With thousands of people on their phones at the same time will one be able to rely upon a seam-free download process 20 mins. before kickoff ? The schools' ticket offices are fixated on getting their 'fair share' of the secondary market and the higher the price goes...the more they get....just like the 're-seller'

$6000 for 4 tickets
$500 for parking
Two rooms for $200 a night apiece for 2 night x 7 games $5600
That’s $12,100 just to stay, park and walk in the game. So yes, the whole thing has gotten out of control.

I don't go to away games any longer, but 2 or 3 years ago when we played UGA in Tiger Stadium the face price of that ticket was $135. The people who sit in front of me knew i had an extra ticket because my wife doesn't go to the games anymore, but I still buy both of my tickets. Anyway his wife texted me to ask if I would sell them the ticket for their kid so he could go. When her husband approached me at the stadium to purchase the ticket and asked how much I wanted for it, I told him $135, and for a whole week he thought that I had scalped him, until he found a ticket at his feet the following game and looked at the price. That frickhead had the nerve to tell me that he thought that I overcharged him for the ticket to the UGA game. I don't sell him any of my spare tickets anymore. I'd just as soon have the extra room. That's what I tell them anyway when they ask if I'd sell my extra ticket.
