He did a lot of the things that coaches in other programs have to spend time doing themselves. His position helped free up coaches to do what should be doing . He did have a major role.
I'm sure he did. I didn't say the guy was sitting on his arse. This doesn't address my point. The hair pulling over his departure is silly. That's all I'm saying. If LSU was in the CFP and poised to make another run next year then I would say we might have to worry about where the program is headed without Thomas.

Miles couldn’t even manage a game clock and you want him a GM, where he would need to manage multiple tasks throughout the program.
Hahahahaha so many idiots on this board.

How about you read what Austin Thomas says about Orgeron instead of just guessing?

Do you realize how stupid you just made yourself look? I never knocked Austin, at all. However, he can be replaced. You guys are pathetic.

You are dealing with a bunch of emotional, dumbass kids here. Thus, the overreacting

Dude always called people "kids" if they didn't perpetually suck O off on here.

Wtf? There are a bunch of kids here, and I'm not the only one pointing that out. I'd hate to think grown arse men were so emotional over an assistant coach. Also, you are dead wrong on two accounts. I used to post here years ago, just came back on. Second, I am not an O guy at all. I think he should be fired if they go 8-4 or worse next year. That said, I like the direction in recruiting. Btw, wtf do you bring to this board other than negative bs?

Its funny watching people try to fit this into their alleva is ruining everything narrative even with evidence to the contrary.

Well, that sucks arse extremely, the kid was good at his job and LSU should have upped his salary to keep him. The guy has intangibles that are hard to match with not just anyone.

LSU's 31-year-old GM Austin Thomas is changing the game....A day with Austin Thomas, the man behind the curtain for LSU.
"A native of Franklin, Tenn., Thomas was the primary recruiter for LSU on Stevens and he was also the primary on another Nashville prospect, four-star linebacker Jacob Phillips. Those two players, both the top-ranked at their position according to the 247Sports Composite, helped Thomas hit 11th in the country in the 247Sports Recruiter Rankings for the 2017 cycle."
"The General Manager tag that accompanies Thomas' position is a valiant effort at corralling his responsibilities into one title but it still fails. At varying points during my day with Austin at LSU any of the following would have been apt descriptors: Director of Player Personnel, Position Coach, Recruiting Coordinator, Associate Athletic Director, Assistant to the Head Coach, Graduate Assistant and more.
At the daily 8 a.m. staff meeting, though, Thomas is primarily stepping into his Director of Player Personnel shoes. Thomas sits to the immediate right of head coach Ed Orgeron at the head of an oval conference table. The LSU coaches surround the table and take a guided tour through a packet of information prepared by Thomas' staff that touches on everything from results from the weekend's junior day to a dossier of relevant stories around the internet about LSU commits and prospects."

He's been involved in recruiting since the fall of 2008. That's when he decided against Vanderbilt Law School and chose instead to pursue a Master's degree at the University of Tennessee. Somewhere along the way Thomas found himself in the football office as a recruiting intern for Phil Fulmer's final staff in Knoxville.
As Fulmer departed and Lane Kiffin arrived, Thomas had the opportunity to connect and work with Ed Orgeron and Frank Wilson among others. Those connections helped lure Thomas to USC and later to LSU and those relationships formed the foundation of why Thomas has spent the better part of the last eight years at those two programs.

How the hell did O do that exactly?
He wasn't good enough to get playing time at safety so he was moved to WR. He wasn't good enough to get snaps there so he was moved to hback. He wasn't good enough to see the field there so he was moved back to safety and he sat on the bench.
Haha I'm sure that's exactly what O promised the number 1 safety prospect coming out of HS. If you're not the starting safety we will put you in as Hback. If I was Stevens and had NFL aspirations as a safety I would be wanting to practice and be playing there full time (even in the 2 or 3 deep his true freshman season).

And this is the first year he worked under Orgeron as a HC. Maybe his opinion of O has changed. Nobody really knows why he is leaving. If he wants to be in the NFL, seems to be he would be better off at LSU with our recent NFL success. That argument holds no water.

Yeah you're totally not the emotional one. I like to rationally discuss all things LSU sports. What do you contribute besides shitting on people who express opinions that don't comport with your delicate sensibilities?

You're making shite up based on no evidence other than you hate Orgeron. Tennessee has a brand new regime, which opened the door for Thomas to go home. Quit making it fit your narrative.

LSU better have made a great offer and not just let him walk out the door
You already know what happened here.
Alleva to Thomas; "I have someone who wants the job."
I imagine the janitor is now Thomas's replacement.

Some of you are so deluded, the dude wanted to go home nothing LSU could do short of extremely over paying.
