Steele was the only one who slowed us down last year. If I recall, we showcased some new formations/packages in that game and weren’t as crisp as nearly every other point in the season. But it was mostly accredited to a 3-1-7 defensive alignment they unveiled.
With how well Finley performed on the underneath and those quick-hitting routes against USCe, I imagine we see a lot of this again this weekend.

Last year it worked because their 3 linemen bottled up the run (most of the game). Those big guys were animals but they’re all gone. If they show us this look all game again, TDP and Emery should each get 20 carries and FEAST.

Technically, 2/3 are gone...Big Kat (#1) is still there

The wet field also played a factor in slowing down the offense last year.

It's time to run the damn ball with 3&4

Field conditions were rough and Davidson/Browne/Big Cat did big work. We also have film from the scheme they ran that game and also against Ole Miss. We should be able to counter it. I think our offense will do enough to put us in a position to win the game. I'm not sure what to think about our defense.

I guess if you look at redzone production you could call it slowing us down. But even being "slowed down" we put up over 500 yards of offense and rushed for almost 200. We moved the ball on them at will, just had a problem closing out drives that game.

The weather slowed us down last year. Not Steele

We weren’t crisp with our new packages in the redzone if I recall.

We also came out in the second half and just ran Clyde repeatedly straight at their 3 man front very successfully... would expect to see similar plan from the jump this weekend

Steele is good and will be ready for us, but they really only used that 3-1-7 in 3rd and long situations. They ran a 4-2-5 Nickel the majority of the game and stacked the 2 LBs on top of each other.
Also, as previous poster mentioned, stopping us on 4&1 on the goal line twice really helped them.
They certainly don’t have the personnel to play with only 3 down linemen without Brown and Davidson. The strength of their D now is their LB core...

That works when you have monsters on your DL.

Brown and Davidson are gone now. I feel Like we can run on a 3 man front.

We certainly were not. We also had a ton of penalties that game, double digits for over 100 yards if my memory serves me correct.

I will agree with you that their defense probably was responsible for that to some degree. However, I wouldn't say giving up 500 yards of offense would be considered slowing us down by anyone's standards.

I think if we play assignment football and execute a simplified scheme according to the game plan we can win this game. Time of possession will decide the outcome of the game I think. Cut down on the mental errors and pre snap penalties. AND THE DEFENSE HAS TO TACKLE.

I agree they really didn’t slow us down but they were able to keep the score

They were able to play that because they had an NFL grade 3 down line set. They are not that good this year. Not saying they are bad but they are not Derrick Brown.
