I thought that we were on the brink of turning it around after taking the series at Tennessee (on the heels of winning the series against UK), but losing to Bethune-Cookman was a bad omen heading into that horrendous Ole Miss series.

3 out of 5 years Jay hasn’t hosted a regional. Has never sniffed a conference title.

Objectively below LSU standards regular season coach with a 5 year track record. He’s gone on two incredible post season runs on the back of having the best college pitcher in baseball. Hopefully he can have a top three pitcher who’s also nails in the post season every few years.

I wish that we were as successful in the regular season as an elite school like Arkansas - I wonder if they would be willing to trade places with us. Well, except they’re 26-13 this year.

If we’re casting doubt on Jay’s track record at LSU, which literally any school and essentially any sport would be desperate to emulate, we should step back for some perspective - if the job of the LSU coach is to keep winning national championships, then the most important aspect of the job is having the team playing their best by the end of the season.

And he has certainly done that 4/4 years, though it remains to be seen this season. I know that everyone looks back on 2024 as an utter failure between dream seasons, but that team turned around from 3-12 in the SEC to one out from hosting a super regional in BR.

Put in another perspective, every year that Jay has failed to meet expectations at LSU, he has followed up with a national title. That’s a pretty incredible track record - we’ll see if it continues.

The week we lost to North Eastern ULL and Sac State was some of the most atrocious baseball I’ve seen at LSU in a very long time.

This is the correct answer

After the UL game. Jays demeanor in the press conference was telling. He knew then.

I’ve just had the understanding that sometimes teams don’t have it. This is one of those teams. Good players. Some were great last year in a different environment. For some reason, together this year at LSU, they can’t seem to put it together. But, unlike some people who post here, I’m not gonna lose my shite over it. I’ve been fortunate enough to watch LSU baseball be great so many times in my life.

I'm not sure when but the signs were there early. Typically I don't concern myself with what happens before the SEC because that is the time you sort out your lineup and pitching. This year was different.

Last year we rode the pitching of Anderson and Eyanson and had some seasoned dudes like Jones, Hernandez, Dickinson. No one has stepped up this year to fill the void.

I am not going to suggest I know how Jay fixes this but he is going to have to narrow and sharpen his recruiting focus. This roster needs a serious retooling. Hitting and pitching look like crap.

I keep seeing this line posted as some kind of a cope for the 2024 season but yes that season was an epic failure

Anything can happen and we can get hot at the plate but pitching either walking or giving up bombs isn’t going to change. That’s the frustrating part.

I feel like they have really good pieces to different puzzles so they don't fit together in this puzzle. When the pieces do align it is good, but not elite.

To answer OP, I got that feeling after Sac State, but wanted to reserve judgment until SEC play. I really felt like they were turning a corner against Tenn, but losing to Bethune was when I said, ok...we are just not good. They looked out matched last weekend at Ole Miss and they are not even close to A&M sadly. I expect we get swept again this week.

I trust JJ and know that he will get it fixed moving forward. We have solid pieces, just need to find others that fit the same puzzle

No indeed. It was a decent year, just not up to LSU standards. It wasn’t an “epic failure”; it was a typical down year.

This

And it wasn't not good bc of no talent, just thought that we aren't mature, no true leaders, and no consistent pitching

Casan and Will just arent Fri and sat starters simply not in sec

Lol I guess that means we aren't good for our standards

Correct we got hot at end and pushed an omaha team to the ropes. We finished on a positive

I dont see this team being able to do that at the end of the season

I kept remembering the ‘24 team had a worse record but that Ole Miss sweep last week was it for me.

Now we may not even make a regional unless we straight up win the SEC Tournament
