Go pull out a 20 year old TV and that white line gets awfully fuzzy. And so does being able to see the exact point he catches it.
Not funny - but that was actually the SEC claim - they did not have high def setup for reviews. Now, I don’t give a shite if it was on a b&w tv with rabbit ears...Stevie Wonder saw that was an INT

So this was on my FB feed this am, from a guy I've known since '92. Not saying it's 100% true, but he's a little too level-headed to just pull this from his arse. So, fwiw...
If the official in the booth can't agree with the officials in Birmingham, then the final call rests on the official in the booth.

I know, and I think that was year 3 of having replay. The proof need to overturn a call on the field was much higher than it is today. So if the guy had any doubt because his screen wasn't clear enough, he wasn't going to overturn it. They didn't say the call was confirmed. They said it stands.

This is not a valid excuse for an organization as big and as wealthy as the SEC, where millions of dollars are on the line every game.
My best friend has been a high school football official and basketball ref for over 20 years. He told me at the time that the PP incident was absolutely inexcusable and unprofessional. He is not an LSU fan or graduate, either.

It's a valid excuse as far It being what happened, but I agree that it never should have been the case and they should have had a top class setup from the beginning.

the "guy" was Dick Burleson who had a website hailing his speaking engagement services. On the site at the time his close relationship with the Alabama football program was mentioned. Miraculously, his website went away the Monday after the game.
The official who made the initial call made it in a split second. And quite frankly,I think Alabama would have still won.
But Burleson's decision wreaked of dishonesty and being unethical. Not overturning that call was a travesty and Burleson never worked a game again.

Look, I get it. Your job as a fan is to make sure that what everyone else is seeing "isn't real".
On this play, there are three other officials besides that one in the background. There is another ref diagonal from him, as well as two line judges watching this play to mark the spot when the RB is tackled. FOUR refs could have seen this, in wide open field, yet NONE did.
Just like they didn't see the blatant push in the head later after a play, or the obvious false start on the game-tying TD.
This was the effing NCG. LOL.
This is ridiculous.

That's not what I'm saying at all. Just trying to point out that a missed/bad call can still be explained in a manner that doesn't suggest a bias.
So you are suggesting that the refs, AKA "The Blind Boys From Alabama" are actually

This is the worst missed false start in the history of organized football. Jesus Christ.

Uhhh no. In 50 years of watching football I have never heard of a DEFAULT call on a reception OR interception. It has ALWAYS been best initial judgment by the officiating crew with the discretion to reverse a call on the field after consultation. There was NO reason to ASSUME he was out of bounds. You know as well as I do, if the roles were reversed, Julio Jones gets credit for the reception instantly. Period.

Not as ridiculous as it is oblivious to seeing the truth. Someday the Athiests will be considered the sane ones. Delusional they are....

Thanks - I wanted to, but was posting from my phone.
Some of your links are broken, by the way.

I do think there's quite a few refs in the SEC that are just bad. Not biased, just bad.

2012: Aaron Murray. Bama fans argued that he had thrown an interception so it was “within the rules”
To this day, Bama fans deny that this is the hit that convinced the NCAA to create the targeting foul in the first place. Steve Shaw was using it in the film to instruct referees on the rule.

Someone posted yesterday an interview with the referee. He said that the 1st guy was obstructed, so it came down to him to make a decision. He said that since he couldn't determine if he had possession inbounds that they are told they should rule it incomplete, so that's what they did. I hear all the time "call what you see, not what you think you see". With things like spotting the ball on a run, you obviously have to make a decision where to spot it, but on when determining if a guy caught a ball in or out of bounds, I can easily see going with incomplete if you didn't have a good view of it.

Need to email the link to this thread to local and national sports media. I would propose to admin that this thread be made extra sticky until the game
