As a coach do you start a player slightly better offensively or better defensively….

I know it matters what position they play, i.e., middle infield, but how do you decide as a coach?

I get frustrated sometimes when an LSU opponent plays better defense and seems to have better fundamentals when we are more of a power team and rely on the long ball… but how do you decide? Once you have your team put together… do you play offense or defense? I think our power team concept has worked over the years for the most part but of course there is a trade off and at times we will struggle defensively.

What say you?

Depends on what the rest of your squad looks like. A weak link at the plate won't kill you. A weak link in the field will.

Other than catcher the answer is generally offense. Maybe SS you’re willing to sacrifice if you have strong hitters in other spots

How hot have your bats been? Are you facing a small-ball offense? There's no permanent answer.
