Not very good at fielding and weak at the plate

For a catcher, he's doing fine at the plate. His defense is his weakness.

Arrambide '26
.270 BA, .886 OPS, 10 BB thru 23 games.

Hernandez '25
.270 BA, .848 OPS, 10 BB (whole season)

I find it odd that such a high ranked catching prospect can't........catch.

This is the thing, at some point people are going to cry about some of the young players that have left lsu and are playing well at other schools, and bitch about “missing” on transfer guys.

But you come off a championship and keep the gem of last year’s recruiting class (Jay’s words) in Arrambide, so of course he is going to play.

As fans you can’t have it both ways. Finding a balance of trying to be competitive every year by adding the best transfer players and trying to develop young players is difficult. So just embrace it for what it is. These young players will take some lumps but you can see where they are growing if you just pay attention to everything, and not just the negatives:

Both our catchers are struggling on defense. We have to block better, catch everything that not in the dirt and make a solid throw to first. Oh and catch the ball when there is a play coming home. Focus and execute, both are extremely high rated players.

MLB league average is around 20%-25% which he is sitting right in that range.

All the everyday starters are hitting below .300. He is 4th on the team in average. He was arguably the 2nd best bat in the lineup last week against Vandy. This team besides Brown has struggled at the plate at times this season.

Whether you believe he should have gotten credited with more than 3 pass balls is irrelevant, the number is 3. He has improved behind the plate since last season and is still the best option. This is his first season as an everyday starer and will continue to develop and improve but the narrative you're trying to push is extremely misguided.

New drinking game. Every time he drops or misplays a pitch, take a shot. BTW that would have meant 16 shots in the first OU game with 8 in the first inning.

That formula definitely worked from 22 to 23 and again 24 to 25.

This team has the potential to be far better than 22 and better earlier than 24. It will just depend on the rate of development and consistency.
