Getting the lead runner kept the force intact on all bases.

They only advantage of that is that you would be able to get a force out at 3rd base. That isn't much of an advantage. I really don't think he thought that hard about it. I think he just took the easiest play in front of him.

No guarantee tha Milam would not have been safe

On the replay from the left field camera, Milam wasn’t even in the picture when the SS fielded the ball. It would have been an easy double play assuming no bobbles

Now, we would have called time before to make sure everyone knew the runner on 2nd didn’t matter.

If I recall correctly, they did have a mound visit right before the DP that wasn't.

made worse by him slipping

Nah bruh...he slipped because he made the wrong break to begin with. He didn't move and it cost him.
I thought it was bizarre that even when he slipped, he still could have gloved it, but he chose to break his fall with glove hand

I believe the 3rd baseman was shocked the SS went to him. He was going to watch the double play and it caught him off guard.

line drive hit directly at an outfielder is the hardest play for an outfielder to make… the ball can jump around, especially up/down, and because the ball is flying directly at him while he is charging the ball, everything is happening double or triple fast… and you only get 1 chance… then the ball is past your glove, and everything is happening even faster now, because that ball can do anything… in this case, it must have ricocheted off of his shoulder, nothing else would have made it shoot out at such a angle… i want to see more film… because if it hits him in the face, he is going down, and hernandez would have circled the bases…

Had the 3rd baseman thrown directly to first they might have had a shot.

Problem is he didnt position his feet correctly to even get an attempt off? He was so thrown off by the SS getting the lead runner that his foot work wasn't right to throw to 1B

Milam should get some grief for that effort at base running

Cut him a little slack. That was not an easy play for the left fielder. It is not like the dropped pop foul that cost them the championship a few years ago.

He took a chance. If he makes a spectacular catch he is a hero.

No, the problem is that the 3B's initial move is towards the ball, away from the bag. He then has to scramble to get back. To me, it looks like Aloy actually slows his throw down a bit to give the 3B time to get there.

But when the ball was hit, there was definitely time for the unusual 6-5-3 double play. I just don't know for sure if that's what Aloy was thinking, or not.
