Yeah.... I know what you're thinking.... Say what you want about Murf... he does think outside the box. Lose a ***** TE, gain a ************* DE?? He makes a good case...

Freak Alert: LSU signed a No. 1 Pick on Defense?!

They also signed the #1 TE. We also lost a TE who had one of the best seasons in LSU history.

He is going to play TE.

If CEO recruited a generational TE just to play him at DE, CEO would definitely lose out on other generational players in the future.

Murf seems to be proposing what he thinks is better for Gilbert personally than what may be better for LSU. Gilbert may have a higher draft ceiling as a DE but he would need some time to develop technically.

I'm sure he could play DE ... doesn't mean he should. He's a rare athlete at TE.

Unless he became a generational player at DE. Then O looks like a genius.

ETA: Not saying I support moving Gilbert. I'm excited to see him torch opposing defenses.

Some people on here get all wound up at the suggestion a player might excel on both side of the ball.

Had we not had Guice and Fournette, Devin White would probably be a running back in the NFL now. Leonard Fournette might have a longer career at line backer in the NFL. Stingley could be a first round pick at receiver.

Gilbert is a freak athlete who might well could be on the the best rush defensive ends in LSU history.

But it is a moot point, he is coming as a tight end. I will guarantee you this, had Gilbert told LSU he wanted to play defensive end, Pellini would be one happy dude.

Lot of obsession on this board about certain players moving to different positions. The coaches will decide whether a player might be a good fit at another spot. it won't be decided by someone who ran out of ideas on what to post.

Gilbert knows he would be a great DE but he doesn’t want to play DE. He wants to play TE. If he was a DE he would probably be the #1 recruit in the country and he knows that. Some dudes want to play certain positions.
