Pitts is being heralded as the freak and generational talent at the TE position.

Gilbert has the same if not better physical attributes as Pitts

If Gilbert can get his act together over the next 24 mos, he’s the one being taken top 5 In the draft.

Lord man, get your sh*t together and go to class and train for 24 months.

It’s not that hard.

Not that hard huh? Did you play college athletics at a high level? It may not be hard to get yourself to class, but to train year round? Not easy.

Bro, we re not talking Arik taking an advanced level curriculum.

We’re talking some very very basic classes to stay eligible.

I dare say LSU knows what classes to put a star athlete in that struggles in the classroom.

Dude has to play the game for 24 months.

Then millionaire.

Eye on the prize.

24 months.

Of course it’s hard but LSU has WORLD CLASS tutors, academic resources, trainers, coaches, nutrition professionals and anything else to be a top tier athlete. If you can’t maximize your potential in that environment, it’s on you

That is what professional athletes do.

it's actually not hard - not the classes most athletes are taking. It's simple stuff, but it does require discipline to go to class and do the work. But, as you say, they have all the tutors and resources at their disposal.

Now, if they're studying engineering, physics, etc. then sure, that's very difficult and takes a lot more time and energy.

But Arik's classes? Come on.

Like most colleges and universities there is a shite ton of fluff in the course catalog.

I guarantee the paper pushers in the football operations building understand how to hide an athlete in a variety of remedial courses and pass/fail options.

Derek Henry was able to get through 3 years at Bama. LSU can figure it out for Gilbert

The one issue in this whole saga that gets mentioned sporadically is that of AG's mental health. I'm not sure if that is the central issue because nothing has been confirmed by anyone as far as I know. But if that is the case, it explains everything, including the academic problems. My guess is that AG is not an idiot and that he could pass the basic LSU courses if he's all there mentally. If he's not all there mentally, it's tough. I was a division one starting varsity athlete as a freshman and I absolutely cratered mentally. It's more common than you think. And 18 is a prime time for this to happen as all of the security and routine of your home life is upended when you head off to school, in my case 3,000 miles from home.

Bottom line on this whole AG thing, IMO, is this: Whether it's mental illness or not, the kid is 18-19 years old. Cut him some slack.

The NFL never forgets. I fully expect what has transpired this year with Gilbert to affect his draft status (if there is one for him) in 3 or 4 years.
