I’m curious if there was some frustration somewhere. Text message to players and then leaving before the potential CFB playoffs?
Also, could it have been part if his agreement so that he can lock up the recruiting class

At least be a man and have a face to face meeting! WOW

No other way to do it honestly. He was in a tight spot regardless and that window was closing in recruiting wise.

Not sure how else it could have went down honestly

He gave them 12 good years. And considering he took the LSU job he’s of no obligation to stay at Notre Dame for any reason. Waiting to come only hurts the team he is going to be coaching next year because he won’t be out recruiting and shoring up his staff.

The text message was no big deal. He was out of town and had planned on telling them at the meeting the next day. Which he did. But word got out, so he had to say something.
The playoff thing is just the by product of the early signing period.

I understand the recruiting situation and the time of year but don’t you think it’s pretty classless to send a text message to players?

I would think that Woodward told him this was a one time offer and the report day is this. Take or leave it.

the coaching community is a pretty sleazy bunch, they really have no significant loyalty except to themselves, they're not known for being truthful or honest either

He did have a face to face meeting. That’s what his text message was about, saying he was sorry they found out over social media and that he was having a face to face with them the next morning at 7 AM.

No. That wasn’t the plan, but it got leaked. He was man enough to give them a face to face meeting, and his farewell speech was good.

News broke before he got that chance. He did address them face to face the next morning.

Leaving a team with a chance at the playoffs is shocking, but his team had enough respect for him that they understood. Listen to their podcast.

He did. If you had actually paid attention to the message, he apologized that he wasn’t able to tell them before they found out through the media.

I still consider Bobby Petrino an absolute weasel for the way he left the Falcons early then was Callin the Hogs that evening. But I remember he just left a note & never addressed the team.
Notre Dame was in a much better position & if they make the playoffs I would consider this close to Petrino level. But, if they don't make it I don't see it as bad.

We are biased in our assessment, but I don't really agree with him bolting on them. Then again, I don't know shite about recruiting rules/schedules etc.
