Of course the answer is Bama but you’d have to be blind or a fool to deny that the refs are in their pocket and will cause trouble. A good coach knows this going in and knows you have to coach the game like you’re 14 points down at all times to compensate for the fact that the refs will try to swing the game in their favor at crucial moments.

This isn't a Bama thing. It is a MONEY thing.
All the more reason Alabama will get the benefit of the doubt if it happens to be a close game in the 4th quarter (for the record, I doubt it will be, but you never know).

Here lies the problem.
"Unlike in NCAA basketball, which draws referees from pools overseen by groups of conferences, most football referees are hired, trained, rewarded, and disciplined by individual conferences. That means officials are entrusted with making decisions that could hurt their employers—as with the call in the Clemson-FSU game. Clemson was the ACC team with the better shot at making the College Football Playoff and the financial bonanza it dangles.
Do College Football Refs Have It In for Your Team? - There may be incest in big-time college football officiating

In the fourth quarter of the Oct. 29 football game between No. 3 Clemson and 12th-ranked Florida State, the Seminoles were thinking upset. FSU led 28-26 when star tailback Dalvin Cook ripped off a 50-yard run into Clemson territory.
Then came a penalty flag for an illegal block, negating the play. FSU Coach Jimbo Fisher stormed the sideline, screaming at the officials, dropping an apparent F-bomb. Then came another flag, for unsportsmanlike conduct. FSU punted. Clemson escaped with a 37-34 win.

He spent more than a year parsing almost 39,000 fouls called in games involving NCAA Football Bowl Subdivision teams in the 2012-2015 seasons. His research finds “ample evidence of biases among conference officials,” including “conference officials showing partiality towards teams with the highest potential to generate revenue for their conference.”
I don't know how much the refs make but I would hate to be the one that allowed an upset and cost my conference $20 million bucks. I would be nervous as hell about my job security.

Georgia is ranked #1 in the playoff standings.
Alabama is ranked #2 in the playoff standings.
They are probably done for they year. They could have games like this every week and it won't matter.

Just about everything that could go wrong for the Gators did. They had four turnovers, three dropped passes, were gashed against the run and gave up more big plays in one game than they had all season. They missed a field goal and scored once in their first four trips inside the 20-yard line.
UF won 23-20 because of two horrible calls on UF's final drive

How about we just worry about scoring, period.

So sick of hearing about the damn refs..

I don’t doubt that plays some part in it but in the case of Alabama and to lesser degree Auburn there’s just too much visual proof week in and week out to ignore that they always get calls. This happens for Ohio State, Notre Dame and USC as well so it’s not exclusive to our conference but there’s no doubt it happens.

You guys are idiots and this is loser talk. We lose to bama because we aren't as good or well coached. Get over it. Calls go both ways.

Maybe I'm missing something on the FSU-clem play because he did actually hold the son of Clem. Watch the FSU fullback grab his ankle from behind as he goes down.

Bama may not need the refs this year

Agreed. Only losers blame the refs. Refs make mistakes, but overall it all balances out.
Since we haven't beat them since 2011, we look awful if we complain about the refs.
It ain't the refs.
For the most part it isn't the refs but to act like they don't play a part in outcomes of games is just naive.

I’ve already accepted a few major screw jobs as an interwoven part of this matchup. Like I can’t even get mad about it anymore. It’s just part of the game.

From ESPN on the FSU - Clemson game and penalty:
quote:
but an official called Stevenson for an illegal block below the waist.
"It was ridiculous," Fisher said. "It was not a chop, it was a not chop. I will tell you what: You hold coaches accountable, you hold players accountable, hold the damn officials accountable. It is garbage, and then to call another penalty on the sideline is even more garbage. It's cowardly, gutless and wrong.
When in the open field, players are allowed to only block below the waist if the initial contact comes from the front.
The penalty had nothing to do with a hold. They called an illegal chop block. If that is an illegal block, every college game has a whole hell of a lot more than they call in each game.
Fisher said the officials could not give him an explanation for the penalty.

Hands down the refs. Over/under on a ala holding call?

Are they allowed to grab the foot of the defender? Because the FSU player clearly grabs the top of the CLEM player's foot...
The call was an illegal block below the waist but either way, he did something illegal and was penalized for it.

If you actually read the article that you linked, it says that SEC officials "are the least biased in the Power 5." So, according to an actual systematic, data-based analysis, this issue is less a problem in the SEC than anywhere else. In addition, the article specifically disavows the idea that any biases result from pressure from the conference offices. To the extent that they exist (and the article says they do, albeit to a modest extent), they are probably sub-conscious, a result of officials just "expecting" certain teams to be good.

As a 3 TD dog we need to understand what that means before we start blaming officials pregame.
